Job overview
Following the promotion of the current post holder, we are pleased to advertise our CAMHS in New River College (NRC) / Pupil Referral Unit Management Role. We are seeking a committed, knowledgeable and passionate professional to manage and lead our small multi-disciplinary team.
Our CAMHS in NRC is a small and embedded team, working closely across NRC - including a Primary, Secondary and Medical Alternative Provision. We are particularly keen to receive applicants who are experienced in trauma informed practices, and have personal or professional experience of working within a diverse population.
We are specifically keen to receive applications from clinicians from a minority ethnic background, as this is a current under-representation within Islington CAMHS, which we are keen to address.
Main duties of the job
To operationally manage the CAMHS in NRC clinicians and provide clinical and leadership support to all aspects of the clinical offer delivered by the team To line manage staff members within the team. To offer consultation and opportunities for reflective conversations with NRC’s senior leadership team To facilitate monthly review meetings across each NRC site along with NRC’s leadership team To represent Islington CAMHS at the boroughs monthly Securing Education Board meetings where referrals to NRC are discussed To offer strategic consultation to NRC on areas relating to child and adolescent mental health, as well as trauma informed practice To offer consultation about alternative provisions and exclusions to the wider CAMHS service and professional network
Working for our organisation
CAMHS in PRU team
The main aim of the team is to provide a child and adolescent mental health service to NRC, over and above the central CAMHS provision to Islington families, in order to improve access to psychological thinking for these families and for the professionals that support them.
The team is embedded across the NRC sites, and offers both direct and indirect CAMHS input, including consultation and support to NRC staff and wider professional network.
Families whose children are referred to NRC often have had previous contact with services and may have disengaged or never engaged before and may have a complex relationship to help. Additional efforts need to be made to reduce barriers to accessing mental health provision for these
The cohort of children at NRC require a flexible and assertive response from CAMHS. Unlike more traditional CAMHS teams, the PRU team need to make many adaptations and spend time engaging the children. This work is not as easily captured in traditional reporting methods, but is essential for ensuring the children and families are being reached by mental health provision.
