Job summary
The Post holder will be required to work in the Manufacturing & Distribution Laboratory or the Automated Testing Laboratory at the Welsh Blood
Service. They will be required to perform technical, scientific and associated procedures in accordance with their post once fully trained and
authorised as competent to do so.
There will be a requirement to occasionally participate in a 24/7 on-call rota and variable shift patterns including weekend working. This will be
under the direction of the appropriate Laboratory Manager.
This position requires specialist knowledge and experience of either Manufacturing, Distribution or Testing aspects of transfusion science. The
role leads in ensuring the Welsh Blood Service provides a high quality service and is key in maintaining Regulatory Compliance.
The post holder will lead department initiatives relating to quality matters and regulatory compliance including change management, DATIX
investigations completion of documentation to GMP regulations.
As a Senior Biomedical Scientist they will provide highly complex specialist scientific and technical knowledge and have responsibility for a
specialist section within laboratory services providing leadership and direction.
They will be responsible for the performance of their area and for maintaining and developing the area.
The post holder will be required to deputise for the Head of Department as delegated or in their absence.
Main duties of the job
The Welsh Blood Service (WBS) has a vacancy for a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist (Band 7 - Senior) working in the Automated Testing Department in Talbot Green.
This role requires a Specialist Biomedical Scientist in either Transfusion or Medical Microbiology.
The post holder will also perform a variety of routine and specialist scientific and technical tasks within the laboratories of the WBS and support
the Band 7 Section Leaders in the management of staff and the day to day running of the Automated Testing Department.
The successful applicant will work at a level to ensure that all processes meet the requirements of the UK Guidelines for Blood Transfusion and
the EU Directive as inspected by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).
