Main duties of the job

Theatre and Outpatient Clinics: Time will be divided between operating theatres and outpatient clinics, including managing outpatient wound care within their scope of practice.

Specialist Knowledge: Utilise extensive cardiothoracic surgical specialist knowledge at the MSc level.

Direct Clinical Support: Provide specialist clinical advice and support and liaise with other members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT).

Surgical Skills: Perform surgical skills in the peri-operative environment as first and second assistant.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Expert Specialist Resource: Act as an expert specialist resource and educator for colleagues, patients, carers, and families to achieve effective patient care and recovery.

Collaboration and Improvement:

Multidisciplinary Teamwork: Work closely with Consultant Surgeons, Surgical Care Practitioners, the Lead Advanced Clinical Practitioner, and other MDT members. Service Re-appraisal: In conjunction with the Lead Advanced Clinical Practitioner, will be responsible for overseeing and delivering service improvements and audit cycles to optimise delivery of patient care.

Key Skills and Attributes:

Advanced clinical and surgical knowledge in cardiothoracic surgery. Strong collaboration skills to work effectively within an MDT. Commitment to continuous service improvement and patient care quality. Educational and mentoring capabilities to support the development of colleagues and improve patient outcomes.

Essential criteria

NMC or HCPC registration MSc with surgical credentialing or surgical care practice Significant experience within cardiac surgery Operate as first and second assistant with high level of clinical skills Ability to work well within a team environment
