Glasgow, United Kingdom Rolls-Royce Full time

Description

Technical Lead - Firefighting Equipment & Escape - Submarines

Glasgow

Full Time

Why Rolls-Royce?

Rolls-Royce is a part of The Dreadnought Alliance that was formed in 2018. The Alliance's mission is to deliver four Dreadnought submarines for £31 billion, with the first one ready for patrol in the 2030s.

We’re a leader in propulsion system design and development for the Royal Navy’s nuclear submarine fleet and the sole provider and technical authority.

Join us and we’ll provide an environment where you can be yourself. An inclusive, digital-first culture that invests in you, gives you a platform for continuous learning, and access to an incredible breadth and depth of opportunities to grow your career.

There is currently a unique exciting opportunity for a Technical Lead with a Firefighting Equipment and Escape background. So if you can demonstrate technical engineering knowledge of Firefighting Equipment and Systems in a Safety Critical Environment this maybe the perfect opportunity for you.

You will be responsible for advising the SubSys Engineering System Owner on the approval of the design and build acceptance of Firefighting and Escape Systems (including all fixed arrangements and portable stores) integrated into the Dreadnought Class submarines.

We offer excellent development, a competitive salary and exceptional benefits. These include bonus, employee support assistance and employee discounts.

Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home or another remote location. It’s a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum we’re all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.

What you’ll be doing:

You will be responsible for the delivery of assurance to the Platform Authority of the capability and performance of Fire Fighting Equipment, Fire Detection Systems, Emergency Breathing Systems and Escape and Rescue Equipment.

Working very closely with stakeholders from both the Dreadnought Alliance and other organisations including ship builder, project planners and other subject matter experts you will be:

Technical Problem Solving often coupled with appropriate management planning abilities Producing technical documents in the assessment of system capability or performance Undertaking assessments of supportability and maintainability Providing expert advice and guidance in own technical area to solve complex technical problems and identify risks Assessing and advising on system design change, defects, contract requirements and management of hazards Maintaining and when appropriate, writing systems guidance documents in support of projects and industry Overseeing decisions which will impact the submarine capability in the future including support, future development and maintainability Ensuring the submarine is safe, delivered on time and to budget on behalf of the customer

Who we’re looking for:

At Rolls-Royce we embrace agility, are bold, pursue collaboration and seek simplicity in everything we do. These principles form our values and behaviours and are an essential component of our assessment process and are fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.

Firefighting Equipment and Escape experience across a broad spectrum of industries will be considered as well as those with Category B Submarine Operator experience.

Engineering knowledge and experience of Fixed firefighting systems Strong Stakeholder Management capabilities, familiar dealing with stakeholders at all levels An understanding of concession management. Awareness of design configuration control. Awareness of Technical Requirements, Evaluation & Acceptance Awareness of build quality assurance activities and acceptance processes. Qualification in an Engineering related subject or equivalent experience in industry

We’re an equal opportunities employer. We’re committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. We believe that people from different backgrounds and cultures give us different perspectives. And the more perspectives we have, the more successful we’ll be. By building a culture of respect and appreciation, we give everyone who works here the opportunity to realise their full potential.

You can learn more about our global inclusion strategy at

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place.

Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets, you must hold a UK nationality . Any dual nationals will require additional scrutiny and background checks prior to commencing work with RRSL.
