Stage 1 – Operational Assessment & Operational Interview

Operational Assessment

The Operational assessment is a Level 2 assessment based around the Effective Command Behavioural Framework (Katherine Lamb) and linked to the Skills for Justice Framework. The outcome of the operational assessment will be either a ‘pass’ or ‘fail’ and will not be scored. Those unsuccessful would be ineligible for further stages of the process. The Operational assessment would take place prior to any further elements.

Operational Interview

This will consist of a post operational assessment professional discussion to ensure that individuals have the required knowledge and understanding of key overarching operational principles. In addition this will include questions relating to the level of command and tactical roles of a Station Manager.

Stage 2 – Leadership & Management Interview (plus Flexi Interview if applied for)

The assessment will be in the form of an interview and will be based around the NFCC Leadership Framework with consideration of the Fire Standards in Leadership. Your application form will be reviewed prior to the interview and some questioning will focus around expanding on the information provided within your application form.

Flexi Station Manager Element (Optional element)

This will be an additional element for those seeking flexi duty system opportunities and would be competitively scored to enable a fair selection of individuals to go into a pool for promotion to the flexi duty rota.
