This HV Control Commissioning Engineer will report to the Network Control Performance and Training Manager and will work within Network Operations based in our Fore Hamlet office. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of £58,229 per annum (depending on experience) and a bonus of 3%.

Job Purpose:

The role of HV Control Commissioning Engineer is to assist in the safe and efficient commissioning of new RTUs and Switchgear to allow the further enhancement of the UK Power Networks high voltage network. The new telecontrol facilities you will bring to the control system will have a positive impact on safety and performance which aligns with UK Power Networks vision and values.

You will be part of a team that provides the safe and efficient control of UK Power Networks HV and EHV systems and will help UK Power Networks Quality of Supply project to reduce customer interruptions and enhance overall network performance.

Principal Accountabilities:

Switch safely utilising SCADA on the HV network to assist in the commissioning of new HV remote control facilities. Provide advice to the Control Engineering team about SCADA commissioning. Ensure RTU commissioning is completed and to the correct engineering and safety standards. Maintain and SCADA issues or other defects that may occur when commissioning and ensure they are correctly flagged and chase rectification. Safely load and modify SCADA for our sites. Provide accurate figures on commissioning numbers Provide commissioning and automation services to the Control Systems and Automation team to support new Control System functionality, Quality of Supply and Improvement plans. Liaison with Control and Diagram Administration teams to ensure accurate representation of the control network diagram. Liaison with the Control Systems and Automation team to ensure they are compliant with their standards, Liaison with operational field staff and asset management staff to ensure the accuracy of data sources with a view to improvement. Provide a central contact for commissioning between Network Control, Control Systems and Automation and Field-based Engineers.

Nature and scope:

The HV Control Commissioning Engineer reports to a Network Manager within the Network Control Team. The Network Control team aim to provide the best in the safe and efficient running of the HV and EHV networks for UK Power Networks. The team goal is to improve safety, performance, innovation, data accuracy and visability with a view to reduce CI's and CML's whilst maximising return on investment. You will participate in the, dynamic and efficient daily operation of the Network Control team. You will need to learn both the technology skills to undertake the commissioning of SCADA equipment and have also have knowledge of HV system to allow them to become authorised as a minimum as a limited Control Engineer (switching only). They are willing to work extended days 3 to 4 days per week.

Qualifications:

You will understand the distribution network and will demonstrate a and commitment towards safety and meeting business targets. We ask that you can liaise with other departments to and improve processes.

Relevant industry experience. Minimum of ONC Electrical & Electronic Engineering (or equivalent), knowledge of the distribution network especially at HV. Knowledge of Control System RTU integration including DNP3, WISP+ and other industry protocols is desirable but not essential. Knowledge of the Distribution Safety Rules. Good understanding of the network control function. Background in working on distribution networks is useful. Good understanding of Ofgem Guaranteed and Overall Standards and the Regulatory framework..

Employees need to be aware that for some craft and operational roles that work at height, or use fall arrest devices, there is an upper weight limit of 116Kg due to maximum safe working load of the safety equipment that is used.
