This pupil referral unit provides specialist education for primary-aged students who have experienced trauma and face significant Social, Emotional, and Mental Health challenges. The Role
We are looking for a compassionate and resilient Teaching Assistant to join the team, supporting primary-aged children. Your role will involve working closely with students to help develop their social skills, manage challenging behaviour in a calm and patient manner, and contribute to their overall well-being. Collaboration with the wider team will be essential to ensure each child receives tailored support.
Main Responsibilities
- Support students in developing social skills and emotional regulation.
- Manage challenging behaviour with patience and empathy.
- Work closely with the class teacher and team to implement individual strategies for success.
- Provide one-to-one and small group support during lessons.
- Foster a safe and positive learning environment for students.
Essential Criteria
- Previous experience working with children who have SEMH needs or trauma.
- Strong spoken and written communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to challenging situations.
- A caring and empathetic approach to supporting children.
Desirable Criteria
- Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant training in trauma-informed practices.
- Experience working in a pupil referral unit or similar setting.
