Job summary

Fylde Coast Mental Health Support Team (MHST) have an exciting opportunity for 6 trainee Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs) to join our team. The EMHPs will work mainly in education settings to support children and young people with emerging mental health and emotional wellbeing needs.

For the duration of the training year, EMHPs will attend a North West university for two days each week, in addition to working in services (and educational settings linked to the service) for a further two days each week, with the fifth day spent completing the self-study elements of the role.

Posts are initially temporary for 12 months to allow successful completion of the training year. Upon successful completion, roles may be extended to Band 5. If the course is not successfully completed within the timescale, then the temporary Band 4 role will be terminated at the end of the one-year fixed term period.

The post holders will work under the direction of the Service Lead and Practitioners, across the primary schools, secondary schools, special schools and our Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) within the Fylde Coast footprint. Joint working with Options4CYP (Children and Young People) and other teams in the wider system will be essential, to support the emotional wellbeing and mental health needs of children and young people.

Some evening and weekend working may be required andthe post holder will be expected to take their annual leave predominantly in the school holidays.

Main duties of the job

The Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner will:

Work under the direction of the MHST Service Lead and closely alongside a team of mental health professionals delivering a wide range of evidence informed interventions, under supervision. Joint work with Options4CYP (Children and Young People) and other teams in the wider system. which is essential, to support the emotional wellbeing and mental health needs of children and young people. Develop and practice evidence-based skills under supervision to work directly with children, young people and families. Develop and practice evidence-based skills under supervision to carry out holistic and child-centred mental health assessments, including risk will study alongside other trainee EMHPS at Greater Manchester Psychological Therapies Training Centre; and be based and work with EMHPs, Mental Health Practitioners and a Senior Clinical Practitioner to support the wellbeing and mental health needs across primary schools, secondary schools, special schools and our Pupil Referral Unit (PRU). Work with Young people with mild to moderate mental health presentations attending school across the Fylde Coast. Use clinical systems and keeping accurate notes and other records

All teams working on the Fylde Coast with children, young people and families have a strong work ethic of support for each other, with all team members seen as equals. The services have been established for many years and have now expanded to encompass Mental Health Support Teams, with a range of professionals and dedicated admin staff. Qualifications

Essential

Ability to study successfully at Postgraduate level (demonstrable through presence of existing qualifications OR by successful completion of a written assignment prior to a confirmed job offer) Proven record of previous academic attainment- minimum of level 4 qualification

Desirable

Previous learning or formal study in Child Development, Wellbeing, Psychology, Mental Health, or a related area.

Skills

Ability to study as a self-motivated learner who can formulate their own progress towards learning objectives and negotiate pathways to achievement with supervisory teams.
