Trainee Geotechnical Technician

Ian Farmer Associates (1998) Ltd, a member of RSK Group Ltd, is a geotechnical ground investigation company. Due to an increasing workload an exciting opportunity has become available for an Assistant Technician to join the team in the Washington UKAS accredited geotechnical soil and materials laboratory.

No experience is required, and full training will be given. Suitable candidates will have an interest in a career working in a soil laboratory environment.

Key roles and responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities associated with this position include, but are not limited to the following:

• Performing a variety of physical tests on soil, rock and aggregate samples to the highest level of safety and quality standards.
• Develop an understanding of the test methods and why samples are tested.
• Assisting in the calibration and maintenance of all technical equipment.
• Maintaining a clean and orderly laboratory environment.
• Ensuring the quality of work produced is to high standards and tested in a timely manner.
• Sample receipt, storage and disposal.

Required experience:

• 5+ GCSEs including English, Maths and Science.
• Good numeracy and literacy: able to write clearly and accurately
• A good eye for detail, diligent in following procedures.
• Good IT skills, especially the use of MS Excel.

There will be lots of manual handling involved in the role and will require moving heavy items on a frequent basis.
