An exciting opportunity has emerged for highly motivated registered adult nurses to join our Hyper Acute Stroke team in St Georges University NHS Foundation Trust as a Senior Staff Nurse (Band 6). Are you interested in becoming an emergency thrombolysis practitioner with a specialist interest in acute stroke care and management? Do you want to develop your leadership and engage in managerial skills and develop your knowledge within this area? We will invest in your development, education and learning to increase your knowledge of managing strokes within an acute setting. You will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge and specialist skills in assessment of stroke and support patients through their stroke pathway, post interventional treatments, as well as supporting patients in their early phase of rehabilitation and discharge.
The opportunity of becoming an integral member of the thrombolysis stroke team responding to emergency for FAST positive stroke calls and admissions as part of your development program, you do need stroke experience, just the motivation and drive to join a dynamic team. You will be required to be a bleep holder and emergency responder to stroke calls. You will be an integral part of a highly motivated stroke team and will help support you to develop the competence and confidence you need as an effective, independent healthcare professional.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic nurse who will be responsible for the day to day clinical and leadership role of the unit. The post holder will be required to have excellent communication skills, demonstrable leadership skills and the ability to work autonomously and as part of a multi- disciplinary team.
Your responsibilities as senior staff nurse here at the Trust would be varied and would include:
Work in close co-operation with the senior nursing team and multidisciplinary team; ensuring effective use of resources and high standards of care which is responsive to individualised needs by appropriate delegation of workload. Ensure effective communication at all levels. Implement annual staff appraisal for all staff managed. Identify and promote ways of improving the service, utilising all available resources. To undertake surveys or audits as required. With support of the senior and junior team take appropriate action relating to complaints, accidents and serious untoward incidents involving patients, staff and visitors. Demonstrate effective time management. Take responsibility for the maintenance, storage and safety of the equipment in accordance with trust policy. To have continuous responsibility for the management and organisation of the ward/department within the available resources.

Undertake the completion of the ward/department staffing rota as a delegated Duty, ensuring that there are appropriate staffing levelsand skill mix to meet patient care take appropriate action to address unexpected changes and situations, informing the on-call Senior Nurse or Manager as be familiarised with and use of the iCLIP system and any other computerised system integral to the running of the actively contribute to Clinical Governance and achieving the goals of the Service Delivery Unit and the Nursing demonstrate a willingness to lead and motivate a team, always providing clear direction and consistent conjunction with the Ward Manager/Charge Nurse assist in the recruitment selection and retention of nursing staff.

Maintaining personal contact with patients, relatives, and carers, being sensitive to their needs for courtesy, dignity and privacy andalways ensuring a friendly environment. Managing the ward/department in the absence of the Ward Manager/Charge Nurse. Co-ordinating the clinical team and delegating dutiesas appropriate, maintaining safe staffing levels, and informing the Senior Nurse of any problems or incidents that might arise. Storing, checking, and administering drugs in accordance with Trust policy, To work in an unsupervised capacity throughout all areas of the speciality including wards and outpatients. To prioritise own work and that of others to ensure the ward/department is managed effectively.
