Job summary

We are seeking a dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist to join our friendly and supportive team here in Ashford Liaison

As a Consultant Psychiatrist in Liaison Psychiatry based at William Harvey Hospital in Kent, you will be responsible for delivering a high-quality clinical service and actively involved in the strategic development of the team and broader services.

East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust is a large provider of acute and specialist services that serves a population of over 750,000 across Dover, Canterbury, Thanet, Shepway and Ashford.

You will work collaboratively with one other Consultant Psychiatrist to provide a single point of contact for the mental health needs of patients attending the Emergency Department or admitted to William Harvey Hospital.

Successful applicants will ideally have MRCPsych or equivalent and be on, or within six months of inclusion on, the Specialist Register. You will be fully registered with the GMC, and have Approved Clinician status and S12 approval under the Mental Health Act (or achieve this within 3 months of appointment).

Main duties of the job

To provide psychiatric care to patients referred to the Liaison Psychiatry Service and contributeto cross cover. To provide medical expertise within the Multidisciplinary Liaison Team. To act as a Responsible Clinician (Approved Clinician status) for patients detained under the MHA to the acute trust. To ensure effective liaison occurs between mental health services and the acute hospital, andalso with other agencies in the voluntary and statutory sectors as appropriate

Qualifications

Essential

MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.

Desirable

Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management. MRCPsych Additional clinical qualifications. Specialised knowledge of liaison psychiatry service provision

ELIGIBILITY

Essential

Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment. Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months. Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment

Desirable

In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice

CLINICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Essential

Excellent knowledge in specialty Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge Excellent oral and written communication skills in English Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA

Desirable

Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service Endorsement in Liaison Psychiatry from Royal College of Psychiatrists
