Job summary

An exciting development opportunity has arisen on ward L49 - the Childrens Day Case Unit for a motivated and enthusiastic Band 2 ward clerk to work hours per week as part of a multi-professional team, committed to delivering a high standard of care to children and their families.

Ward L49 is an extremely busy 26 bedded Childrens Day Case Unit incorporating a Childrens Plastic Dressing Clinic and a Childrens Surgical Admission Lounge caring for children undergoing day case surgery, day case medical intervention, dressing changes and inpatient admissions. You will have enthusiasm, strong communication skills and customer experience along with good computer skills .

You will also be a forward facing member of the team dealing with anxious families so sympathy and empathy will be a big part of your role.

Main duties of the job

The role involves administration support to the ward to enable staff to provide a high standard of care to our children and families undergoing surgical and medical procedures.

Admin booking of patients into ward diaries, answering phones, booking appointments, filing, admissions, transfers and discharges of all patients via PAS., supporting the governance agenda/ audits/ metrics and safe care.

About us

The post holder will work closely with the ward manager and their deputy, in the admission, transfer and discharge of all patients in a working day. You will be liaising with the multidisciplinary team on a regular basis, and be efficient in dealing with phone calls and passing on messages.

A back ground in the systems we use at LTHT would be advantageous however support and induction will be provided.

JOB PURPOSE

To undertake administrative duties at ward level including the accurate and timely recording of patient activity data on Trust systems. To undertake clerical and related duties on the ward and enable Sister/Charge Nurse and other ward staff to concentrate more freely on direct patient care. This will involve considerable liaison with other departments and wards on behalf of the ward staff.

The jobholder will contribute to the maintenance of an environment for effective care.

JOB DIMENSIONS

The jobholder will work within an area caring for children with a variety of conditions. The ward has some short stay in patient beds as well as a busy assessment area
