Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 4 Nurse Associate togain endoscopy experience based at Evesham Community Hospital, providing a widerange of diagnostic procedures, and pre-assessment clinics.

Main duties of the job

To work according to the NMC Code and relevant professionalguidelines and frameworks including the Trust 4wards behaviour providing aholistic effective and efficient Endoscopy service to the local population.

To assist in the assessment of staffing requirements andreporting problems to the appropriate manager.

To provide high quality nursing care and participate in theassessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the care needs for thepatient group within Endoscopy.

To deliver compassionate person-centred care and treatpatients, service users, their families and their careers with consideration,dignity and the respect you would want for yourself or your family.

To be responsible for developing and sustaining your ownknowledge, clinical skills and professional awareness in accordance with NMCrequirements and to maintain a professional portfolio with evidence ofreflective practice.

To work within clearly defined accountability frameworks, recognising at all times the boundaries to the remit of the of the Nurse Associate Role.

Job responsibilities

To work as part of the multidisciplinary team to ensureeffective, safe and high-quality care which is compassionate, and personcentred within the endoscopy setting. To participate in theassessment, planning, implementing and evaluation of the care needs for thepatient group within endoscopy.

Assist the Registered General Nurse in the provision of asafe and caring environment.

To act as a role model to colleagues, always seeking tomaintain the highest standards of professionalism.

To contribute positively to the department and organisation

To work within clearly defined accountability frameworks,recognising at all times the boundaries to the remit of the of the NursingAssociate Role.

Deliver a high standard of clinical and/or therapeutic carewithin the endoscopy setting in accordance with instructions and trainingreceived.

Communicate with patients and their carers using tact,diplomacy, empathy and reassurance during potentially difficult or stressfulsituations or where there may be barriers to understanding.

Respect the diversity of individual service users ensuringthat the maintenance of their dignity and your respect for them is anintegrated part of all activities undertaken.

Assist the patient to be as comfortable as possible, helpingand assisting positional changes during the procedure using appropriateequipment with appropriate training. The post requires manual handlingactivities.

Respect the dignity and privacy of the individualsundergoing an endoscopic procedure and involve the patient in any decision-making.

Assist in therapeutic and basic endoscopy procedures withinown limitations and work towards the required competence as directed by ownlearning portfolio with support from the Endoscopy Professional DevelopmentTeam.

Communicate clearly, effectively with the patient and ensurepatient meets the endoscopy discharge criteria.

Assist in the induction, supervision and training ofHealthcare Support Workers and student nurses and nursing associates.

Demonstrate a level of skill and understanding which enablesthem to undertake specific tasks delegated by the nurse/Allied HealthProfessional (AHP) in charge and in accordance with relevant procedures,guidelines and policies. The post holder will undertake both routine andspecially identified tasks for which they have been trained and assessed ascompetent.

It is expected that Nursing Associates will be able to carryout all of the core competencies outlined in the job description, but theirduties and competencies will vary according to speciality agreed extendedcompetencies. Similar or related duties may be undertaken in support of theenvironment, which are not listed.

Undertake specifically identified administrative andclerical tasks associated with patient care which facilitate the smooth runningof the ward/department.

Supervise, assess and mentor Healthcare Support Workers,Trainee Nursing Associates and other unregistered staff and assist in thesupervision and learning of other healthcare students with the exception oftheir assessment.

Clinical:

Deliver a high standard of clinical and/or therapeutic carewithin varied care settings in accordance with instructions and trainingreceived.

Communicate with patients and their carers using tact,diplomacy, empathy and reassurance during potentially difficult or stressfulsituations or where there may be barriers to understanding, confusion,physical impairment, cognitive failure or language barrier.

Act as an effective resource of information for patients andtheir carers.

Assist with and undertake patient assessment in accordancewith programme of care, communicating findings to the registered Nurse andtaking appropriate actions.

Correctly label requested specimens and ensure transportationto appropriate department

Assist in providing conditions to meet the patients need forcomfort and ensure the patient can access a nurse call bell and communicate anydelays in the list, keeping patients informed at all times

Provide and promote health education; support and encouragethe patient to meet their own health and wellbeing needs.

Assist the patient to be as comfortable as possible, help with moving and positioning the patient using appropriate equipment.

Involve the patient in shared decision-making and obtaintheir consent before undertaking nursing procedures.

Work cooperatively as part of the multi-disciplinary team,assisting nursing and other clinical staff to deliver a high standard ofholistic patient-centred care.
