Halton Hospital are recruiting band 5 nurses or ODPs to work on our elective site, we are seeking motivated and caring individuals who share our mission to be "outstanding for our patients, our communities and each other". We are seeking applications from experienced theatre practitioners

The Nightingale building is our elective general surgery hospital which has two theatres and a treatment suite for laser vein surgery and Chronic Pain services. It is situated adjacent to the Captain Sir Tom Moore Building (CSTM). The staff based at the Halton site also work in a general theatre at the Captain Sir Tom Moore building and the staff work across site to staff this theatre

There are 4 elective surgery theatres on Captain Sir Tom Moore site .This site has 3 theatres for mainly orthopaedic elective surgery and 1 theatre which covers breast, urology, Ear Nose and Throat Surgery, and other surgical specialities as required. All have laminar flow.

There are eight theatres on the Warrington acute site which provides services for the following specialties: Gynaecology, Obstetrics, General Surgery including laparoscopic surgery, Urology, Breast Surgery, ENT, Dental, Colorectal including laparoscopic surgery, Ophthalmic, Trauma & Orthopaedic, and Paediatrics.

We also provide a 24-hour Trauma, Obstetric and Emergency service. Staff who are based on this site are required to support emergencies and provide an out of hours service including rotation onto nights and an on-call Rota.

Main duties of the job

We offer a fully supported preceptorship and core competency programme, led by our perioperative practice education team. Continuing Professional Development is available via both in-house and university-based training initiatives such as Advanced Life Support with regular CPD reviews to support progress. We are an elective department with 2 sites with 3 theatres and a treatment room providing care for patients and staff and perform a range of surgery including

Urology Breast General Surgery Gynaecology ENT Pain Management Service Laser Vein Surgery

At Halton Hospital Theatres Theatres we work full time hours over 4 weekday shift

A successful applicant would be based at the Halton Nightingale site. You will be required to care for the patient throughout the perioperative journey ideally working in 2 of the areas of anaesthetics, scrub and recovery. The Halton Nightingale site also site has an elective surgery theatre in the sir Tom Moore building which is staffed on week days by Halton based staff

All applicants are expected to possess excellent communication and team working qualities with a willingness to learn new skills. You should be forward thinking and passionate about providing a high standard of care. Practitioners will be team players with a flexible attitude to the service requirements, and a defined awareness of the importance of service delivery. We welcome individuals who have an enthusiastic approach to teaching students and junior members of staff.

Job responsibilities

These are the main requirements of the individual specialities

Recovery Practitioner

To provide skilled assistance to the anaesthetist to enable safe maintenance of airway in both adult and paediatric services in the post anaesthetic phase

To apply pain management knowledge and use practical skills to support epidurals / /I V bolus of opiates

To provide immediate post-operative care for patients requiring High Dependency/ITU intervention, whilst awaiting transfer externally or within the trust.

Anaesthetic Practitioner

To provide skilled assistance to the anaesthetist to enable safe maintenance of airway in both adult and paediatric orthopaedic services.

To assist in patient positioning/preparation for elective patients

To assist in the safe external transfer of patients requiring High dependency/ITU care at the identified receiving hospital.

To provide a cell save service as required when qualified as per Trust protocol.

Scrub Practitioner

To provide care for patients during surgical intervention and skilled assistance to the Surgeon and Anaesthetist to ensure patient safety always.

Act as lead taking responsibility for elective specialities, completing accurate documentation to ensure adherence to protocol thus ensuring patient and staff safety always.

The post holder will have significant responsibility in ensuring that all instrumentation is sterile and available for use prior to procedure and meets all decontamination criteria to maintain standards of practice and minimise risk to patient safety.

Teaching & Training

To participate in teaching programmes as required.

To identify suitable teaching opportunities/requirements for staff undergoing development and to undertake practical teaching of staff at every possible opportunity.

To identify own training needs through the appraisal mechanism and ensure identified needs are met.

To actively participate in induction programmes for new staff to ensure a welcoming environment.

To mentor student ODPs and Student nurses and new support staff.
