Main duties of the job

Experience of working within wound care is desirable. The post holder will demonstrate good professional work ethic and a willingness to learn. They will demonstrate good clear communication skills and the ability to work autonomously and within a multi-disciplinary team. Treatment plans will be in line with local formulary and with the patient at the centre. The post holder will engage in continuous CPD throughout their employment and have a willingness to share experience and teaching with the wider team. The post-holder will be expected to undertake all the duties and responsibilities associated with a wound care nurse within urgent and emergency care. The post holder will ensure all aspects of safeguarding are considered in each patient contact and act appropriately with local and organizational guidelines.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Following appropriate training the post holder will undertake wound assessment and dressing selection for the following types of patients:

Post-Operative (clip and suture removal)

Cavity Wounds

Burns

Self-Harm

Skin Tear

Cellulitis

Referral to the wider Multi-Disciplinary Teams

Mentoring Junior Staff and Student Nurses

Rotas

To attend meetings when required

Assist with appraisals

To promote the service and implement change as requested from the ICB.

This role also involves patient education regarding nutrition in wound healing and scar management.

The post holder will also contribute to administrative and housekeeping duties within the service locations.

Duties and Responsibilities

Endeavour to maintain good standards of communication both in written and oral form.

Assess a wound and make appropriate dressing selection for the desired plan of care within the formulary guidelines.

To deliver wound care services to sites across the Fylde Coast as agreed by the ICB, currently Fleetwood, St Annes and Freckleton.

Hold a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle to travel to each site when required.

Work well within a small team.

Be flexible with working pattern across the current locations to assist with team annual and sick leave to ensure the service is covered at all times.

Participate in promoting and implementing services to new sites when required by the ICB for the expansion of the existing service.

Provide evidence of up to date current, clinical and professional issues.

Show awareness of evidence-based practice in a Wound Care Setting.

To support both junior and senior staff and colleagues in delivering the outlined commissioned service.

To ensure mandatory training is up to date.

Flexibility in attending organised educational updates and eagerness to expand on current knowledge base and cascading new educational information to colleagues whenever possible.

To work safely and comply with the companies policies and procedures.

To work autonomously remaining within own scope of practice.

Make entries in the clinical notes using the service areas computer programme ADASTRA.

Acknowledge and accommodate barriers to communication and understanding including speech, hearing, language and emotion.

Initiate emergency action when required

Obtain and dispatch specimens on request.

Assist and support clients within all the services as necessary.

Undertake routine clerical duties answering the telephone, taking messages, filing, photocopying and dealing with queries.

Assist in the ordering and supplying of materials and equipment stores after authorisation by the Lead Nurse in wound care.

Promote the service and maintain the positive reputation within the local health economy as a role model

Ability to evaluate own practice Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the team Ensure accurate and legible notes of all consultations, treatments and attendances are recorded. Ensure the clinical computer system is kept up to date. Ensure data collection requirements are maintained Contribute to staff meetings Support and develop close working relationships with the multidisciplinary team. Build and develop good working relationships with other service providers.
