JOB PURPOSE:

As part of a team of Manufacturing Engineers responsible for the continuous improvement of the Assembly facility, the Senior Manufacturing Engineer for Vehicle Control and Aerodynamic Testing (VCAT) at Aston Martin will be responsible for the delivery of vehicle programmes from original concept and design, through to manufacturing feasibility and into current production focusing specifically on VCAT's. The successful candidate will have experience of Facility & Tooling requirements, Standardised Process Documentation, PFMEA & Process Control Plans, Layout Planning and Statistical Problem Resolution for software diagnostics and coding. You will ensure that the highest quality build standards are achieved whilst ensuring the health & safety of technicians is never compromised and as part of a team of engineers be responsible for the Continuous Improvement of the assembly facility at Aston Martin delivering robust process and quality improvements.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Facilitate and participate in improvement projects and value stream groups involving multiple stakeholders across the business functions.Attendance in various shopfloor performance reviews to build loss/defect intelligence and set priorities.Ownership of focussed improvement process – driving down losses in the plant.Data analysis and planning of key improvements for critical measures such as build efficiency, waste, and process risk optimisation.Identification and support of CI activities that will create value, leading focussed improvement initiatives, six sigma projects and FMEA risk reduction activities.Stabilisation and standardisation of production processes via definition of trigger levels for escalation in daily plant performance meetings.Support process owners to implement new tools and improvement projects.Verify effectiveness of new tools and sustained application in process.Data collection.Create, identify, and implement best practices.Leadership and mentorship of others in application of process and procedures supporting standardised workflows.

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:

A recognised engineering apprenticeship/qualification and/or relevant experience in the Automotive/Aerospace industry.Previous relevant engineering experience, particularly related to VCATS (software diagnostics and coding), current and advanced manufacturing, with a good understanding of problem resolution and an ability to interrogate and interpret data is expected.A willingness to adopt new ideas with an open mind to low volume constraints is essential.Working knowledge of Siemens Teamcentre or NX would be advantageous.Additionally, Autocad layout drawing, 3D printing /model creation, data manipulation and BOM management are all beneficial skillsets within the team.Strong verbal and written communication skills Systemic problem solver able to implement solutions, undertake root cause analysis & manage change.Demonstrate competence of project delivery through application of continuous improvement practicesExcellent communication skills to present effective & persuasive arguments /presentations on complex topics.Project management capabilityProblem solving experience and success.Good level of technical knowledge regarding CIP tools and methodologiesPositive and proactive approach to challenges and change management.A passion for continuous improvementConfident with ability to influence.Six sigma, Kaizen, FMEA, Poke Yoke experience advantageous but not essential.Full driving licence is required.Able to travel at short notice within the UK to other Aston Martin sites.The above list of job duties is not exclusive or exhaustive and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks as may be expected within the scope and grading of the post.The post holder will be required to comply with all policies and procedures issued by and on behalf of Aston Martin Lagonda ltd.
