We are looking for an enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to join our expanding oncology clinical trials team. This is an exciting time to join as we are looking to expand our early phase clinical trial portfolio and develop ATMP studies.

The team at Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust comprises of approximately 500 pharmacy staff working across five sites and is one of the biggest pharmacy departments in the country.

Main duties of the job

To support the Principal Pharmacist Oncology and Oncology Research in the delivery, management and development of the pharmacy clinical trial service at Weston Park Hospital and the wider pharmacy trials team. The service includes the delivery of ATMP and early phase clinical trials.

Qualifications

Essential

NVQ level 3 or BTEC level 3 Diploma in Pharmaceutical Sciences (or equivalent) Current GPhC Registration (Pharmacy Technician)

Desirable

Specialist technical / management modules or equivalent experience in aseptic preparation Practice supervisor, Train the trainer or equivalent qualification ILM level 3 Leadership and Management qualification or equivalent

Experience

Essential

Extensive hospital pharmacy technician experience working in clinical trials Experience of working in oncology Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team Experience of working within service development projects Experience in supervising staff within pharmacy

Desirable

Dispensing for clinical trials experience Hospital pharmacy aseptics experience Managing staff experience

Special Skills/Aptitudes

GCP training Up to date knowledge of all aspects of GCP and clinical trial trial legislation Up to date knowledge of legislation relevant to pharmacy practice, , controlled drugs, Health and Safety at Work Understanding of stock control systems Knowledge of Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines requirements Able to handle hazardous materials safely according to local procedures Understanding of the importance of adherence to SOPs and legislation Demonstrates a good understanding of patient safety initiatives Have excellent communication skills; non-verbal, verbal and written, in order to communicate with a broad spectrum of people (healthcare professionals, pharmaceutical industry, research organisations and members of the public) Demonstrates ability to answer complex enquiries Has excellent IT skills including email, word processing, spreadsheets, accurate data entry and various applications such as temperature monitoring, electronic prescribing and specialist pharmacy computer systems.
