The Role

Hain Daniels are currently recruiting for a Student Product Developer for Histon. In Histon, we manufacture a host of ambient sweet spreads and jellies for our grocery brands. These includes Hartley's jams and jellies, Gale's honey, Rose's and Robertsons marmalade's.

PURPOSE OF ROLE

A member of the NPD team working to support the delivery of Hain Daniels Grocery Targets. To ensure that the effectiveness of factory processes are in line with the needs of the business and to continually meet, improve and exceed customer expectations.

To develop and deliver ‘best in class’ commercially viable new or improved products from product briefs to launch, ensuring that the Hain Daniels Group Stage & Gate Launch Procedure is followed.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety, Quality, Hygiene
•Personally demonstrate the correct safety behaviours, ensuring safe operating practices are followed. 
•Complete Near Miss reports
•Contribute to risk assessments when required.
•Support a culture that enhances behavioural awareness to reduce accidents and near misses
•Follow all necessary food product safety guidelines to produce high quality trial recipes and test samples for sensory evaluation so as to ensure their acceptability, food safety and quality to standards specified by retailers and Company

Product Development
•Develop recipes in response to product briefs, creating and preparing test samples in the kitchen and pilot plant to key critical path dates under the direction of Senior NPD Technologists and NPD Managers.
•Adhere to the Hain Daniels Group Launch Procedure.
• Develop recipes and prepare samples in line with the relevant food legislation and food safety requirements.
•Send recipes to Finance for costing and develop to target raw material costs.
•Source new raw materials and specifications in conjunction with Procurement and Technical functions
•Arrange for samples to be dispatched to the relevant locations for review.
•Generate the supporting paper work for internal or external product panels/presentations.
•Co-ordinate and carry out factory trials with timely issue of recipes, briefing all appropriate site functions
•Record, collate and provide recipe details for samples as requested, maintaining comprehensive product files for each product due to be launched.
•Assist in the preparation, issue and document control of product specifications for new product launches and modifications to existing products
•Co-ordinate, when required, sensory analyses of products against competitor products and provide appropriate summaries and data analyses 
•Provide information for QAS on sensory attributes and shelf life studies to schedule, as required by customers
•Maintain awareness of relevant new ingredients and technologies.

Continuous Improvement
•Drive initiatives for improving product quality and innovation, supporting new ingredients and identifying recipe developments to challenge competitor products
•Promote a continuous improvement approach to enhance/improve product development

Communication
•Internally within the NPD team, e.g. ensuring priorities and concerns are communicated.
•Liaise with colleagues across site regarding relevant product development and product improvement activities
•Develop positive business relationships with internal and external stakeholders
•Assist the Senior NPD Technologists or NPD Managers with internal NPD meetings and customer presentations as required.
•Communicate with other support functions to ensure controls required by customers are implemented.
•Plan and organise your workload to achieve demanding deadlines. ‘Working at pace’ and delivery of your SMART objectives.
•Together with your manager, identify your training needs and put in place a time plan in order to achieve them.

What you will need for the role / what it will take:

Education Level (i.e. Degree, Prof. Quals., etc)Essential: A Level in scientific subjects
Drivers licence Desired
Degree in Food Science or Food technology or working towards it
Years Experience (i.e. Relevant experience, Industry Experience, Management level experience, etc)
No experience necessary
