Associate Medical Writer

Reports to Medical Writer/Senior Medical Writer

Job Summary

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that quality control is paramount within all materials produced across the business
  • Developing written materials (for subsequent review by Lead/Senior Medical Writer) in line with client requirements (internal/external), timelines, company editorial policy, ABPI Code of Practice and key product messages
  • Medical research, writing and editing
  • Attending relevant conferences/advisory board meetings along with Medical Lead or a Senior Medical Writer and developing meeting Executive Summaries
  • Coordinating effectively and efficiently with appropriate members of the Open Health Medical Communications team
  • Ensuring line manager and accounts team are continually updated on project progress in terms of budget and timeline compliance
  • Developing an understanding of the various client brand and disease areas quickly
  • Liaising with authors/advisors (including in-person) on content related direction and strategy along with the support of a Medical Lead/Senior Medical Writer

Experience, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Degree educated within a scientific discipline (or equivalent)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interpret and fulfil client briefs in a creative and technically accurate manner
  • Sound understanding of science and medicine, the healthcare environment, and a high level of interest in the medical communications industry
  • Knowledge of medical research, writing and the medical publishing industry
  • Able to seek out, critically appraise and appropriately cite published information
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Willingness/ability to learn and apply new skills and new therapy areas, disease states and regulatory guidelines
  • Adaptability/flexibility and the ability to work in a fast-paced agency setting
  • Solid project management skills and the ability to multitask and prioritise; excellent time management skills
