We are looking for a highly motivated, hard-working health care professional to undertake training to become a sonographer. You will be required to demonstrate excellent communication skills, enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary team and be resilient. You should be accurate in your work, with attention to detail and focus on complex tasks. Although we will provide training for the IT systems used you will have to learn new systems at pace and embrace innovation in healthcare technology. You will need to be committed to achieving this qualification as it requires participation in training and competency program. You must be able to balance work, study and home life as the course provider recommends up to 8 hours private study in addition to the clinical training. Additional study leave is provided on a pro-rata basis. Training avenues are a combination of general medical and Gynaecology in the first instance. The training post provides the opportunity to gain the required experience and qualification(s) needed to operate as a Sonographer, qualified in Non-Obstetric Imaging.
Main duties of the job

Learn to perform a wide range of ultrasound examinations under the supervision of a qualified sonographer.
There are two trainee sonographer posts available within the imaging department. Both posts to commence with Bristol University in January 2025.
The training will include:
Upper Abdomen, renal and Gynaecology scanning as well as small parts scanning Gynaecology and Abdominal scanning - progressing to related modules once the student has demonstrated they are achieving a satisfactory level of competency and meeting academic standards. To be enrolled on a postgraduate certificate in Gynaecology and abdominal ultrasound on an ultrasound course agreed with the department and to attend academic study at their university and submit all assignments as and when required To undertake and successfully complete clinical assessments during the duration of training To participate in providing the day-day delivery of an effective high quality and efficient ultrasound service as provided to the Trust by the Radiology Department The student must keep appropriate records of unassisted and assisted examinations undertaken

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The trainee sonographer helps provide a highly specialist technical service using ultrasound scans to carry out diagnosis. Under supervision the trainee sonographer analyses complex data and is expected to obtain maximum possible diagnostic information taking into account any anatomical and pathological limitations. The trainee sonographer will acquire the appropriate technical skill to operate the ultrasound machinery safely and effectively The trainee sonographer is expected to scan in a variety of settings and locations: scans are performed in the main and satellite departments under supervision. To maximise the service provision you may be asked to work in any of the following three sites:- Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton/Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath/Hove Polyclinic.

Valid HCPC or NMC registration Experience within the NHS Knowledge of IT systems Relevant 1st Degree Skilled in written and verbal communication Minimum of 2 years post qualification

Knowledge of Imaging IT systems experience in delivering bad news proof of CPD/further study
