There are 21 posts with placements in Acute Medicine, SDEC and ward-based speciality, you will providing support with day to inpatient management, such as AM ward rounds, assessment of patients admitted in the afternoons and the performing of inpatient procedures, as required.

The roles will include the teaching, supervising and support of the already establish FY1 junior doctors.

Shifts are mostly 9am to 5pm in most specialties (A&E and Acute Medicine working hours may be different e.g. 8am to 4pm etc.). The roles will not have a requirements to work nights or weekends (unless placed in A&E).

The posts are fixed term from August 2024 to August 2025 and will consist of 3x 4 month placements.

Full GMC registration with licence to practice is essential for this role.

On-Call

Please note that senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) may be expected to participate in an on-call rota, if the role is predominantly operational.

The role will require you to work across all areas in the Trust which includes those that are designated as positive, asymptomatic and negative COVID wards

Duties and Responsibilities

Supervision of FY1 team, relating to the treatment of patients. The management and care of inpatients admitted on the ward. It is expected that such work will be carried out to the highest clinical standards at all times and in accordance with accepted good medical practice and the various clinical policies of the Service. Arranging and performing of any investigations required, where applicable, and the taking of appropriate action in accordance with the results of these investigations. Transmission of relevant clinical information on patients to other medical, technical and nursing staff either within the within or outside of the Trust, regarding patients under their care or those referred to other places for further treatment or follow-up. Maintenance of adequate and proper records on patients for both clinical and audit purposes (including data input into the computer system) and for the furnishing of letters, reports and other documentation as required for medical, legal and statutory purposes. Planning and Organisational Duties

The post holder will participate in a full time rota that will be available in advance. Study and Annual Leave is to be requested via the Rota Coordinator. Communications and Key Working Relationships Trust junior doctors are expected to develop close working relationships, not only with colleagues within the Department and Departmental Nursing Staff to ensure a continuation of patient care, but also with members of the junior hospital staff from all other Departments and with the staff of the diagnostic departments.

 Compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 – the post holder is required to fulfil a proactive role towards the management of risk in all of their actions. This entails the risk assessment of all situations, the taking of appropriate actions and reporting of all incidents, near misses and hazards, and a statutory duty of care for their own personal safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions.

Responsibility for Teaching

Teaching will be provided at departmental level and there will be Audit and training opportunities, which are to be discussed with the respective Clinical Supervisor upon appointment.

Shifts are 9am to 5pm in most specialties (AE and Acute Medicine working hours may be different e.g. 8am to 4pm etc.). The role will also have requirements for on calls . The frequency and pattern and banding supplement of on calls will depend upon the placement and more details re on calls will follow soon.

Any other duties appropriate to the grade. They are subject to modification in the light of changing service demands and the development requirements of the post holder.
