Job summary

We are recruiting for a Payroll Assistant Manager who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

We are looking for a dynamic Assistant Payroll Manager, who has a passion for providing excellent customer service, has an analytical mind and good math skills, and is driven to motivate and guide team members to provide outstanding delivery to our employees and stakeholders.

The candidate must demonstrate outstanding attention to detail and have prominent knowledge in current UK payroll legislation. The ability to work under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines whilst being flexible and able to diversify to the changing business needs is essential. Knowledge of NHS terms and conditions and experience of Oracle or ESR is highly desirable.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate must demonstrate outstanding attention to detail and have prominent knowledge in current UK payroll legislation.

The ability to work under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines whilst being flexible and able to diversify to the changing business needs is essential.

Support the Payroll Manager to successfully run and oversee the payroll department.

Provide high quality customer service, ensuring all payrolls are processed correctly and on time.

Work with Team Leaders, Payroll Officers & Pension Officers to ensure that staff are paid accurately and in line with both HMRC legislation and NHS Policy.

Training, coaching, and advising payroll team members about payroll and pension issues

Qualifications / Training

Essential

Minimum of 5 GCSEs including Maths & English at Grades 9-4 (A*-C) or equivalent qualifications. OR GCSE in Maths and English and experience of working in a UK Payroll or Pensions department. NVQ Level 5 / CIPP / IPPM Qualification.

Desirable

ECDL

Previous Experience

Essential

Experience of managing at team of 5+ employees Strong knowledge of pay procedures and UK statutory legislation. Experience of working in a large fast paced Payroll/Pensions environment, preferably in a shared service environment. Proven ability to mentor and develop a team.

Sound knowledge of NHS Terms & Conditions

Essential

Excellent customer service skills with a strong commitment to delivering solutions and improving processes Impeccable attention to detail, and organisational skills Manual Payroll Calculations in UK Tax, NI, Pensions and other statutory deductions A passion to seek out, drive and implement innovative change initiatives and inspire others to do the same. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft packages, specifically Excel with the ability to use VLOOKUPs, Pivots, Mail Merges and Macros.

Knowledge

Essential

Knowledge of NHS conditions of Pay, NHS Travel and Expenses Regulations, NHS Pension Regulations, Calculation of PAYE and NHS working practices. Be up to date with current statutory PAYE legislation. Experience of Oracle ESR system.

Desirable

Working knowledge in an NHS or local government payroll department.
