We are looking for a Mechanical Fitter to join the Building Services team in Walsall Manor Hospital.

You’ll:

Responsible for calibration and fault finding on a wide range of engineering plant and equipment.

Core skills will include, but are not limited to, (subject to specialist training), undertaking the installation, modification to maintenance and repair of the following:

Low pressure hot/cold water systems Steam raising plant and associated equipment such as calorifiers and sterilizers Ventilation and air conditioning systems Medical air and vacuum plant Installed Building Management System and all associated controlled equipment. All general mechanical site services and associated plant and equipment. To work in accordance with all relevant guidance documents such as, but not limited to, Hospital Technical Memorandums, Water Regulations, Prevention of Legionella (L8), HASAW, COSHH, Pressure Systems Regulations and all other statutory instruments and guidance documents To actively participate in the operation and control of engineering planned preventative maintenance schemes. To actively participate in the operation of any current labour/work managed (computerised or otherwise) scheme in accordance with all designated performance criteria and standard requirements, including completion of all relevant hard copy records. Flexible working arrangements will be expected, and working patterns will be changed from time to time, by mutual agreement, to necessitate service needs, covering out of hours working over 24 hour periods/7 days a week, for short periods at relevant overtime rates and attracting ‘time off in lieu’ for bank holiday working etc. May also be required to cover rotating shifts normally covered by shift technicians during periods of annual leave or sickness, sometimes at short notice, during ‘in-hours’ or ‘out of hours’ periods. To undertake activities in hazardous conditions, but at all times to take appropriate advice, guidance, training and make use of all relevant personal protective equipment.

Maintenance responsibilities

After discussion with the Mechanical Estates Officer (vent) only as required, will undertake essential repair works and general maintenance activities, including requests for the supply of goods and or services as necessary. Carry out planned preventative maintenance inspections and commissioning tests in accordance with Trust and all relevant procedures and regulations, completing all report sheets and test certificates as necessary on systems including, but not limited to, steam, hot and cold water, Legionella, pressure systems, ventilations and air conditioning etc. Immediately notifies the Mechanical Estates Officer (vent)of any deviation from such regulations only when clarification is required. Follow detailed engineering drawings and specifications for fault finding and carrying out modifications and new installations. Make use of all relevant tools and equipment in a safe and professional manner. Undertake inspection, commissioning and re-commissioning tests for all relevant installations issuing certificates and/or record documents as necessary

We’re looking for:

Previous experience in a mechanical engineering role. Previous experience of working within a hospital environment (desirable) Evidence of working within a team
