You may need to visit your patients in residential care, prisons, schools, or in their own homes.
The work of a Psychiatrist is always engaging and challenging, sometimes moving, occasionally frustrating but often rewarding, sometimes when this is least expected. You will frequently liaise with and learn from highly experienced colleagues in other medical fields such as general medicine, radiology, or neurology and with non-medical
colleagues including psychologists and social workers. There is always someone on hand to turn to for advice, or to chat to.

- Experience of working in a Psychiatrics/mental health role
- In depth knowledge of current mental health theory and treatments

- Empathy
- Resilience and the ability to keep some emotional distance from cases/patients
- First-class analytical skills

- Effectively communicate plans of action to other team members (i.e., nursing staff, social workers, etc.)

- Recognise signs of conditions worsening and intervene where people are at risk of self-harming or hurting others
- Keep patient records and medical histories updated
- Uphold the highest standards of practice and care and act as a professional representative of your organisation
- Research your specialist area(s) and remain up to date with the latest medical guidelines
