The Paediatric Endocrine department is seeking a (8PA) Consultant for Maternity Leave cover to join a dynamic and enthusiastic team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a first class team in an active and progressive central London teaching hospital environment
The Evelina London Children's Hospital [ELCH] provides services for children and young people at Guy's and ' NHS Foundation Trust and is based on the ' Hospital site. It provides secondary paediatric care for the local populations of the Boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark but is also the largest centre for specialist tertiary paediatric care for South London and the South East of England. The Department of Paediatric Endocrine is seeking a (8 PA) Consultant to join a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward thinking bone and endocrine team consisting of Dr Fiona Regan (Head of Service), Dr Alessandra Cocca (Head of Bone service), Dr Christina Wei, Dr Michal Ajzensztejn and Dr Alina Oprea (locum consultant).
Main duties of the job
Bone/Endocrinology services for children and young people have steadily developed over the last 10 years along with other tertiary services. The service is supported by 3 dedicated clinical nurse specialists, psychologist and a coordinator and offers a full range of day case investigations which are undertaken on the day case unit within ELCH. Over 50% of referrals are tertiary both from within ELCH and from other trusts.
There are strong links with general paediatrics and the other tertiary sub-specialties at ELCH, including orthopaedics, neurosciences and spinal surgery, cardiology, nephrology, urology, rheumatology, PICU, IMD, haematology, dental services, neonatology, respiratory, paediatric ophthalmology, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and community paediatrics. Existing joint clinics include, renal, urology, haematology, gynaecology and endocrine transition clinics. The team works closely with the genetics department for inherited endocrine disorders and as a result is a regional referral centre. When required, there is access to endocrine surgery. The ELCH team collaborate very closely with King's College Hospital and across the region through the South Thames Paediatric Endocrine Group [STPEG] and has outreach clinics at Darent Valley Hospital, Croydon, Maidstone and Tonbridge Wells and Pembury in Kent.

Every year, ELCH cares for more than 95,000 children and young people in hospital and in the community. ELCH carries out more than 107,000 outpatient appointments each year. On average, we see more than 400 children and young people every day for an outpatient appointment at the hospital. More than 25,000 children are treated in our dedicated children's Emergency department. We see an average of 80 children every day for a planned investigation, treatment or operation. ELCH has a broad reaching transformational programme entitled Fit for the Future which aims to enhance patient and family care and also has major capital plans to develop additional physical capacity to meet this demand.

You must be fully registered with the GMC, hold License to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent at interview stage.
The post holder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years) and therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Criminal Records Bureau to check for any previous criminal convictions.
