About the Role

Bennetts End Surgery is looking to expand our patient services team and to recruit a motivated, reliable and conscientious individual, who can make a valuable contribution to our team as a patient services assistant, on a fixed rota, between the hours of 8am and , on a full or part-time basis. You will also need to be available to cover Saturday 8am to every 4 weeks.

The main responsibilities of the role include:

Answering telephone calls. Processing registrations  Demonstrating excellent communication skills across a wide range of media (face-to-face, telephone, in writing, electronically) and ensure that patients and visitors are always appropriately signposted to the relevant personnel and / or services. Ensuring documents and patient discharge summaries are processed through the work-flow system, efficiently and effectively, using the IT system. Booking appointments. Supporting the electronic prescription service. Liaising with voluntary, social and secondary care providers;. Demonstrating empathy, patience and a holistic approach to patient care, whilst always behaving with professionalism, efficiency and resilience when faced with challenging situations. Working in accordance with the practice’s procedures and protocols, keeping accurate records of all patient services interactions and demonstrating a clear commitment to attention to detail and quality. Supporting the GPs and nurses with the delivery of patient care by undertaking chaperoning duties as appropriate. Understanding the common needs and safeguarding issues of vulnerable patient groups and respond appropriately. Understanding and working in accordance with the legal, statutory, ethical and regulatory responsibilities of the practice and the NHS. Participating in continuous professional development and thereby contributing to quality improvement across the practice. Undertaking ad hoc tasks as requested by the management team that assist in the smooth running of the surgery.

Some flexibility is required, as you will sometimes need to work additional or alternative hours to cover for colleagues.

We are looking for a patient services assistant to join our busy practice team and help make a positive impact on our local community.

You will have the following skills/experience: Ideally previous medical / healthcare receptionist experience. Excellent communication skills with a clear and polite telephone manner. Polite, confidential and discreet manner, respecting patients at all times. Experience of working with the general public, being sensitive and empathic in distressing situations. Confident to work as part of a team and be able to think on your feet independently. Strong IT and administration skills. About Us Bennetts End Surgery is a large GP practice in Hemel Hempstead, looking after 17,000 patients. We are a forward thinking training practice situated in a purpose built surgery with 25 consulting rooms where we offer a full range of clinical services to the patients we serve, the building also houses a 100 hour pharmacy and MASTA (travel) clinic.
