The Role
As an Apprentice in our Telecommunications and Control Systems (TCS) department, you will undertake training to become a part of a team of experienced Technicians employed in the servicing and preparation of TCS equipment, ensuring it is safe to use, reliable and up to standard.
The Apprentice must learn how to fault diagnose and carryout corrective and preventative maintenance on all types of telecommunications and control systems equipment, including Radio and Data networks, public address, telephone systems, customer displays and fire protection systems.
This position will interest you if you are logical in your approach and enjoy problem solving in real-time. You will need to demonstrate your ability to work and study autonomously, promote quality and high standards and an ability to work under pressure. Eurotunnel runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so you will find yourself out in all weathers at different times of the day, so flexibility and dedication are key.
Prinicipal Accountabilities, Qualifications and Experience
The Apprentice must commit to completing the apprentice-training programme and become suitably competent in the systems and procedures of the TCS department in order to potentially become an experienced technician at the end of the programme.
The list below summarises some of the general requirements following training however, this list is not exhaustive and each work area will have specific requirements:
• Understand and respect Health and Safety and operational procedures.
• Learn to perform planned maintenance of equipment in accordance with approved maintenance instructions and schedules to achieve reliability and maximum availability.
• Learn to undertake fault diagnostic work and perform consequential corrective maintenance of TCS equipment in accordance with maintenance instructions and procedures to ensure the equipment is returned to service in a safe and timely manner.
• Learn, understand and participate in the preparation of equipment for service, including inspection and testing to meet customer demands.
• Learn how to record and report equipment performance against agreed instructions.
• Learn the computerised administrative systems.
• Become qualified in the use and operation of all relevant TCS plant and test equipment.
• To work productively as part of a fully integrated Infrastructure team, demonstrating the expected company ethics, values and behaviours.
• A minimum of GCSE Grade 5 or above in Maths, English and a Science or Technical subject as a minimum.
• An Engineering City and Guilds, BTEC and or a NVQ Level 2 qualification would be an advantage.
• Previous experience of working in a mechanical and/or electrical environment is useful.
• Competence in Microsoft Office, Outlook and web tools.
• The ability to communicate in French would be an advantage, but not essential.
• A full UK Driving Licence and Passport is essential for this role, which will ideally be held at appointment.
• This role is open to individuals aged 18 years and over at the time of taking up the appointment.
