Job summary

The Ear, Nose and Throat service is currently looking to appoint an enthusiastic, motivated person to join our team to support the consultant team in the delivery of key services and clinicians within the Surgery Division.

The post holder will provide a comprehensive secretarial support service to consultant and junior medical staff within the service. This will include organising, planning and prioritising tasks and workload.

As a service, it is vitally important in that we provide a high quality service to patients, therefore if you are interested in joining a highly motivated team - it would be great to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

Post holder must be flexible in job role to carry out duties as defined by the Departmental Manager to meet needs of the service. Post holder will be based at Royal Gwent Hospital but typing for clinics held at other sites including YYF and NHH. Post holder will be required to travel to Nevill Hall Hospital to cover workload when secretary is on annual leave or any other absence.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification

Education and Training

Essential

Knowledge of secretarial procedures and systems, some of which are non-routine, and non-routine activities such as answering queries, progress chasing, task related problem solving, acquired through experience and training to Vocational Level 3 or equivalent demonstrable experience RSA 11 Typing or equivalent. Excellent Word processing/ keyboarding skills

Desirable

Studying toward Medical Secretarial Qualification Ability to speak Welsh

Work experience

Essential

Experience of working in an administration/secretarial post

Desirable

Experience of working as a Float Medical Secretary

Knowledge and understanding

Essential

Knowledge of Medical Terminology and audio transcription

Desirable

Ability to learn Specialty terminology Knowledge of Health Board procedures
