Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a Principal Psychologist to join the Adult Mental Health Specialty in Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. The successful candidate will support the continued development and provision of specialist psychological services to adults living in Torfaen. We are looking for a dynamic and inspiring psychologist who can not only deliver high quality assessments, formulations and interventions but can help others do the same. The post is designed to support the provision of services across the Borough from the Community Team to our Acute facilities. Supported by the Head of Specialty, the Principal Psychologist will lead a team consisting of Assistant Psychologists, Psychological Practitioners and a Senior Psychologist.

The successful candidate will be joining a friendly and welcoming Community Mental HealthTeam as well as a cohesive Psychology specialty with a commitment to personal and professional development and a robust sense of professional identity. We have strong interests and highly specialist skills in a range of psychological therapies including CAT, DBT, MBT, EMDR and MBCT and welcome applications from individuals who are keen to further develop their clinical expertise and their team working skills. Main duties of the job

To be responsible for providing psychological services to adults in the population served by the CMHT. This includes, face to face work with individuals, groups, families, significant others, and consultation work advising staff of other disciplines on the psychological aspects of casework and patient management plans. It involves conducting psychological assessments and the delivery of appropriate therapeutic interventions for the full range of referred difficulties accepted by the service. To provide teaching, training and supervision of the psychological work of psychologists and the work of staff of other disciplines. To conduct and supervise research and audit, to develop and evaluate new clinical and psychological programmes, as a major responsibility of the job. To participate in relevant research/ audit groups, as required by the Mental Health Division. To contribute to the development of new psychological services in the Borough and participate in service planning teams as appropriate, and advise the Head of Adult Psychology on these issues. To work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and to contribute to the activities and developments of this team. To participate fully in the professional activities of the Adult Psychology Speciality and the Gwent Psychology Service. To gain further experience of Professional Issues and to be familiar with current Strategic thinking in the NHS in general and Mental Health in particular.

Psychology Degree (or equivalent conversion) conferring eligibility for graduate basis of registration with BPS Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology (or equivalent)
