Last year an excess of 64,000 children and young people were seen and cared for within the Emergency Department. We pride ourselves on delivering excellent care to these children and young people who present with a wide range of medical and surgical emergencies and minor injuries whilst also supporting their families. As the Regional Trauma Centre for paediatrics we also care for the most seriously injured children in the West Midlands.

Your wellbeing is important to us: we offer weekly chaplaincy, wellbeing hubs and debriefs. Here at Birmingham Children's Hospital, we are committed to excellence and innovation. As a new member of the team despite your previous training and experience, you will be fully sported by our senior nursing team and education team to build and develop your career within the emergency department. Training opportunities include: trauma, resus, triage, APLS, ENP, critical care skills and human factors training.

Please note: this role is for experienced Band 5 Staff Nurses' with a UK Professional NMC Registration and and right to work in the UK.

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for the assessment, planning and management of care to acutely sick and injured children. You will work in all areas of the department and treat minor injuries, major trauma and medical, surgical and speciality emergencies.

At least 1 year's post qualification paediatric experience in an acute paediatric setting Ability to recognize and act upon the need for immediate medical intervention Understanding of professional and current issues in nursing Evidence of supervising and assessing students Ability to understand and respond in emergencies IV drug administration certificate or competency
