We are looking for an enthusiastic and adaptable Senior sexual health Nurse to join our caring and progressive team in Chatham.

Main duties of the job

Our team delivers high-quality evidence-based care to people to support their sexual health needs.

You’ll be part of an enthusiastic and passionate team dedicated to keeping people in Kent and Medway safe and well, now and in later life, by providing contraception, treatment for sexually-transmitted infections, and advice and support to maintain healthy relationships.

You’ll provide sound clinical judgement and leadership to support our team to safely deliver patient-centred care, and consistently monitor quality and progress in a challenging but rewarding environment.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

Nursing or midwifery qualification and registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Degree level or equivalent professional qualification Evidence of Specialist qualifications relevant to area of practice or willing to work towards a Sexual health qualification Mentor qualification Evidence of band 6 competencies using the Sexual Health Nurse Competency Framework or willingness to work towards

Desirable criteria

Working towards Master level study PTLLS/DTLLS, PGCE or Certificate in Education Documented evidence of NHIVNA competencies NMP or willing to work towards. Clinical leadership, management or supervisory qualification DFSRH HIV Qualification STIF Intermediate

Experience

Essential criteria

Practical experience in managing health related projects/ complex caseloads Supporting others (mentor / educator / supervisor) experience Minimum of 18 months experience in working within a sexual health service or infectious disease service or acute medical experience or other relevant discipline. Understand and experience of the principles of partner notification for bacterial sexually transmitted infections. Asymptomatic STI screening, testing and management of symptomatic male and female patients

Desirable criteria

Experience of leading and managing teams Experience with the use of Microsoft Office and a variety of IT packages (E-Pay / E-roster/ TAPs/ CIS) Experience of working in a community environment. Understand and experience of partner notification for all sexually transmitted infections including HIV

Knowledge

Essential criteria

Understanding of training needs in relation to post Ability to manage time effectively, priorities and work under pressure to meet deadlines Ability to work effectively with a variety of people at all organisational levels across different sectors including areas of social deprivation Ability to communicate complex, sensitive information to individuals and groups Strong influencing and negotiating skills Competent to undertake cervical cytology screening or willingness to undertake training Comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of sexual health and local services. Knowledge of current research in sexual health speciality. Understanding of confidentiality in relation to sexual healthcare Issue selected treatments for contraception under advanced Patient Group Directions including the fitting of contraceptive diaphragms. Competently complete care pathways for patients requesting sub-dermal contraceptive implants / intra-uterine devices. Competent in the diagnosis and management of bacterial and viral STIs Competent in microscopy, or willing to gain this competence

Knowledge of BHIVA treatment and care guidelines including co-infection and pregnancy.
