Job Opportunity: Science Graduate Teaching Assistant

Are you a recent Science graduate passionate about education and eager to inspire the next generation of scientists? Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated Science Graduate Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted good secondary school in Whalley Range. This full-time position starts in September and continues until the end of the academic year, with the potential for a permanent role based on performance.

Role Overview:

As a Science Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting both teachers and students to enhance the learning experience and academic outcomes in the field of Science. Your key responsibilities will include:

  1. Classroom Support: Assisting Science teachers in delivering engaging and effective lessons across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, providing individual and small group support to ensure students grasp key concepts.

  2. Resource Preparation: Helping to prepare lesson materials and practical resources, ensuring students have access to everything they need for experiments and theoretical learning.

  3. Laboratory Assistance: Supporting students during laboratory sessions, ensuring safety protocols are followed and helping to explain experimental procedures and results.

  4. Student Mentoring: Offering academic and pastoral support, helping students build confidence, develop study skills, and overcome any learning barriers in Science subjects.

  5. Assessment Assistance: Supporting teachers in assessing student work, providing constructive feedback, and tracking progress to inform future teaching strategies.

  6. Intervention Sessions: Leading targeted intervention sessions for students who need extra help in Science, focusing on areas where they struggle the most.

  7. Homework Assistance: Assisting students with their Science homework, ensuring they understand the material and encouraging independent study skills.

  8. Extra-Curricular Activities: Participating in and supporting Science-related extra-curricular activities, fostering a broader interest in the subject and school life.

  9. Collaboration: Working closely with Science teachers and other staff members to develop and implement effective support strategies, ensuring a cohesive approach to student learning and development.

Requirements:

  • A recent degree in a Science-related discipline (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or similar).
  • A genuine passion for Science education and a desire to support young people in their academic and personal development.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities effectively.
  • A proactive and flexible approach, with a willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic school environment.
  • Previous experience working with young people, either in a formal or informal setting, is desirable but not essential.
