What you'll be doing:

To support the Natura & Co Group IP Hub team in the provision of patents related intellectual property advice.

Key responsibilities:

Responsibilities

Patent Portfolio Management. Monitoring and managing progress of patent applications and prosecution of Avon’s global patent portfolio. Maintain and progress the patent docket in DIAMS IP database. Working with the Associate Group IP Counsel to implement instructions to external agents as required. Preparation of monthly reports of patent annuities due. Payment of annuities through external agent.  New Patent Filings. Working with Associate Group IP Counsel to implement patent filings in line with Avon’s research & development strategy. Liaising with external patent counsel and Avon inventors. Assistance with international filing applications and patent prosecution. Creation and maintenance of new files in the patent docket system. Respond to all foreign and domestic Avon client queries regarding patent filings information. Preparation of translation requests for nationalization of PCTs and EP validations. Strategic Patent Advice. Under guidance of the Associate Group IP Counsel, partner with Avon clients including research & development teams to create patent strategies designed to avoid or minimize exposure to legal liability and help business partners understand the risks and consequences of commercial activities including providing patent and design freedom to use/operate advice. Effectively communicate the consequences and develop alternative strategies to manage identified risks. Agreements. Under the guidance of the Associate Group IP Counsel, partner with Avon clients to finalize and execute agreements in relation to research & development related projects, including NDAs, MTAs, JDA, licenses and assignments. Maintain a database of all agreements on DIAMS. Others IP Matters. As directed by the Associate Group IP Counsel, support the Avon business and legal colleagues in relation other IP matters including copyright, design and trademark domain name matters. Budgeting and Accounting. Use of Legal Tracker to review and approve invoices and maintain accounting and budget spreadsheets. Development of the IP Hub. Continually assist the Natura & Co Group IP Hub with the development and maintenance of internal controls and processes and to identify cost efficiencies and reconcile issues relating to invoices. Act as a team player encouraging collaboration and standards of excellence. Legal Developments and Training. Stay current with legal developments, best practices, and benchmarks in relation to Patents and other IP matters and assist the Associate Group IP Counsel in actively implementing appropriate policies, procedures and training in response.

Relationships & Interfaces

Internal. Relevant Avon research & development and commercial teams; Natura & Co Group IP Hub; Natura & Co Legal Team. External. External patent counsel; external service suppliers, including Dennemeyer; international patent offices and translation services

Experience

Patent paralegal experience, including working knowledge of UK, European and PCT systems. Understanding of administrative aspects of patent practice. Technically proficient in patent prosecution and maintenance. Experience of working with commercial agreements. Experience in working with business stakeholders, patent attorneys and lawyers across multiple jurisdictions. Knowledge of MS Office, DIAMS, Legal Tracker, SAP or similar IP management systems. Experience of negotiating and influencing key stakeholders.

Qualifications

Degree in law or science or equivalent. Patent (or IP) paralegal course or equivalent experience.
