An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Physiotherapist to join our team of Orthopaedic Therapists and assistants providing rehabilitation to trauma and elective patients for 12 months.

This post offers a rewarding opportunity for someone looking to consolidate or gain wider experience in Orthopaedics and team leadership. You will have support to develop your skills in service review, recruitment, audit, and people management at the same time as delivering care to a diverse clinical Orthopaedic caseload and influencing service redesign.

Key responsibilities of the post include professional leadership to the Therapy teams at both sites, developing systems to support team efficiency in line with national guidelines, monitoring quality and provision of exceptional Physiotherapy assessment and care. You will also be required to participate in a 7-day and twilight service.

We are looking for innovative individuals who have exceptional communication and leadership skills. Successful candidates must have relevant clinical background and ability to integrate well into a multidisciplinary working environment.

Main duties of the job

To perform a highly advanced Physiotherapy assessment of patients with diverse presentation and complex physical, cognitive, and psychological/mental conditions. To provide an accurate diagnosis of functional status, develop and deliver a highly specialised intervention plan

To hold responsibility for own caseload and where appropriate assist in caseload of colleagues

To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner working without direct supervision. Supervision is largely self driven through seeking advice from medical colleagues, clinical specialists and peers

As practice placement educator, to supervise, educate and assess the performance of Physiotherapy students. This would be to a graduate standard and involve working with senior Physiotherapy and university staff

To initiate and undertake evidence based departmental audit and research projects to further own, team and departmental clinical practice. Will make recommendations to Clinical Lead/Manager of service and actions changes to practice within team

To carry out other duties as deemed necessary by the Lead Clinician/Manager of Service in discussion with the post holder to ensure adequate provision of service

Working for our organisation

We provide care for the residents of three diverse London boroughs. Most of our 7,800 permanent staff live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.

Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals and we operate from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London – more than 300,000 people visited our A&Es in 2023. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Community Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic.

We’re pleased to be leading the way in wait to get the treatment they need. The Elective Surgical Hub at King George Hospital is one of eight to be ; the Care Quality Commission has raised the ratings for at Queen’s and King George hospitals; and showed that the Trust was the most improved in 2023 for reducing waits for emergency care. 

We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We’re also part of the .

Essential criteria

•Degree/Diploma in Physiotherapy •H.C.P.C. Registration as a Physiotherapist •Evidence of recent and relevant CPD •Appropriate post graduate study in specialist field

Desirable criteria

•Member of appropriate specialist interest group •CSP Membership •Member of appropriate specialist interest group

Skills/ Abilities

Essential criteria

•Expert knowledge of relevant conditions •Evidence of ability to demonstrate leadership and supervisory skills •Ability to demonstrate expert skills in assessment and treatment of patients in line with current practice and research •Understand the legal responsibilities of the profession and their implications for practice

Desirable criteria

•Competent IT skills

•To have extensive clinical experience in the relevant field at a senior level • Experience of quality evaluation, development and audit •Training of junior staff in relevant conditions, treatment and management
