Summary:

  • To deliver and supervise high quality playactivities to children & young people parents and carers inplaygrounds and parks in the borough in order to enable the serviceto achieve the aims and goals of relevant corporate plans andstrategies in relation to children and youngpeople.
  • To manage the daytoday operation anddevelopment of an open access play facility and play workersdelivering play opportunities to children and young people ofschool age.

Responsibilities:

  • Totake the lead in the front line delivery of a programme ofadventure play activities working directly with children and youngpeople to support their personal development and contributing tothe achievement of relevant corporatetargets
  • To actively participate in the annualprogramme planning process to ensure a varied and interesting rangeof activities for young people
  • To beresponsible for promoting children and young peoples participationin all aspects of planning monitoring and evaluating activityincluding the supporting of project based support groups such aschildren and young peoples user consultation groups (Play Forum)and local Friends groups.
  • To promote andpublicise a programme of positive activities available across theborough maximising the uptake of the facilities by undertakingoutreach work contacting other local providers and attendingliaison meetings with appropriate partners/interested partiesincluding local tenants/residents groups schools parents and carersgroups Friends of groups and other communityorganisations.
  • To work in partnership withother agencies such as schools voluntary sector partners andcouncil departments

Qualifications:

  • Possess a recognised youth work and/or playwork qualification (NVQ level 3) orequivalent
  • Knowledge of health and safetyrelating to working with and providing service for children andyoung people
  • Knowledge of child protectionlegislation and safeguarding and its implications for servicedelivery
  • Knowledge of vulnerable groups and thechallenges of working with children and youngpeople
  • Knowledge of a range of principlesunderpinning play work/childcare/youth support provision andunderstanding of Free Play and the delivery of Free Playopportunities
Experience:
  • Experienceof developing facilitating and delivering adventure play activitiesand facilities for children and/or young people and theirmaintenance.
  • Experience of implementingservices objectives across a range of play settings which mayinclude facility based detached projects open or closed play spacestargeted programmes.
  • Experience of developingand maintaining appropriate and positive relationships withchildren and/or young people
  • Experience ofliaising with internal and externalagencies
  • Experience of managing and motivatingteams allocating resources monitoring service provision andproviding reports
