Job summary

Main duties of the job

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Participate in the monitoring of standards of assessment,planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.

Participate in direct care needs of patients, providingexpert knowledge of all clinical specialities and acting as a role model.

Participate in audit and monitoring accurate documentationin accordance with Trust policy, NMC and HPC guidelines.

Be competent in facilitating an emergency service coveringall specialties provided within the department, during elective and nonelective periods

Ensure the safe administration of drugs in accordance withTrust Policy, and NMC and HPC guidelines.

Ensure that all procedures and techniques are carried outin accordance with local competencies and agreed policies and standards.

Ensure rights, dignity and confidentiality of the patientare protected at all times.

Act as patients advocate in all matters relating tohis/her care, treatment and welfare.

Checking on departmental cleanliness and wherenecessary assisting other members of the team in the preparation, clearing andcleaning of the operating suite and equipment before, during and afteroperating

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To provide patient care within the perioperative environmentand act as a skilled member of the multidisciplinary team.

To assess care needs, develop programmes of care andimplement and evaluate these programmes of care, carrying out all relevantforms of peri-operative patient care without direct supervision over a 24 hourperiod, caring for both adult and paediatric patients undergoing routine andemergency surgery.

The post carries a regular commitment to rotational nightduty and out-of-hours work, however this is not a requirement for individualsstarting on a training programme.

To provide perioperative care within the theatreenvironment, across the range of specialities offered by the Trust.
