Head of Automation and Data Science

Are you ready to lead the future of automation and data science in the pharmaceutical industry? We are seeking a Head of Automation and Data Science to deliver the Chemical Development automation and digital strategy across our entire portfolio.

As a leader within our Chemical Development organisation, you will be instrumental in advancing our end-to-end automation platforms and digital technologies. This is a unique opportunity to lead a large department of technology specialists and process/chemical modelers, providing a deep understanding of batch and continuous processes leading to acceleration of process development phases and improvement of current WoW.

Accountabilities:

Your responsibilities will include delivering AstraZeneca’s goals in laboratory automation and data science, evolving a cutting-edge multidisciplinary workflow, and leading SMEs in the application of machine learning for hit identification and process optimisation in a high-throughput experimentation (HTE) setting. You will also support the development of new modular automation and orchestration systems into the developing AZ IT-OT framework and industrial internet of things (IIOT). 

Essential Skills/Experience:


- PhD or equivalent number of years of experience in an Engineering, Computer Science, Automation or Data Management related field
- Significant experience and knowledge within domain
- A blend of data architecture, analysis, practical operations experience and engineering skills
- Experience of industrial automation platforms
- Experience in process modelling, process simulations and digital twins
- Awareness of Engineering data systems and life-cycle management
- Experience in Modelling of modules
- Change Management background
- Experience in the use of data modeling technologies including the use of metadata cataloguing tools
- A passion for innovation and process improvement

Desirable Skills/Experience:


- Experience in implementation of data structure and data lab Post-graduate degree in MIS, Data architecture within pharmaceutical
