This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Clinical Psychologist to join a dynamic, inventive and values-led organisation, to shape and develop our services to meet the needs of the people we work with. We are seeking a Consultant Clinical to work in our Forward Leeds Service, joining an extraordinary frontline workforce with a focus on people experiencing problem substance use who have survived a range of difficult and traumatic life experiences. You will be joining a local team who share a commitment to people being safe and building lives that have meaning and value for themselves and their families. You will be a core member of Humankinds expanding national Psychology Team.

About you
  • The person we are looking for will be community focused and driven by shared values.
  • Someone who looks forward to engaging with individuals who have very difficult lives and have struggled to access traditional forms of support.
  • You will provide clinical leadership, strategic service development direction, and clinical supervision to a team of professionals and will be part of shaping the teams and the psychological interventions they deliver in years to come. 
  • You will work closely with other senior clinical and managerial staff within the service to provide a psychological perspective to service planning, service development and clinical service provision.
  • The successful candidate will work using trauma informed care approaches and principles, which are person-centred and grounded in principles of empathy, collaboration, and shared decision-making, around treatment formulations and planning and to help achieve improved outcomes.
  • Every person who comes into our service is treated as an individual, so understanding the importance of a whole person approach along with being curious, a good listener, a clinically robust practitioner and having a flexible approach are essential skills.
You will make a difference by:
  • Supporting the assessment, formulation, and intervention of complex case work, including delivery of highly specialist psychological assessments and trauma-responsive interventions to people who use our services and those in the professional network.
  • Providing highly specialist evidence-based interventions to service users which address both problem substance use and concurrent mental health difficulties.
  • Contributing to the delivery of reflective practice groups, team formulations and other psychologically informed approaches for clinical and non-clinical teams.
  • Developing, piloting and co-facilitating training, group work and reflective practice sessions.
  • Providing clinical supervision to a highly skilled multi-disciplinary team.
  • Providing local clinical leadership, co-ordination and supervision for staff, trainees and volunteers employed by or attached to the psychology service, under the general direction and supervision of the Consultant Clinical Psychologist (National Lead for Psychological Services)
  • Facilitating the ongoing development of a positive and supportive team culture.
  • Leading on aspects of service delivery and contributing to audit and evaluation.
You will need:
  • Doctorate or equivalent in Clinical or Counselling Psychology accredited by the BPS.
  • Substantial post qualification experience
  • Registration as a qualified practitioner Psychologist by the HCPC.
  • Experience in delivering highly specialist psychological assessments.
  • Experience of working therapeutically with people who use drugs and alcohol.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Experience of delivering workshops/training/group-work/reflective practice.
The post holder will be supported by the Consultant Clinical Psychologist (National Lead for Psychological Services) and by senior colleagues within the Forward Leeds Services. The post holder will be expected to make good use of the expertise of others within the service to further develop their clinical skills with this population.

The post holder will receive regular professional and clinical supervision in accordance with Humankind policy and to Professional Practice Guidelines set out by the British Psychological Society or appropriate designated Professional Body.
