Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Ward 109 which is a 27 bedded ward which specialises in the care of both Upper and Lower Gastrointestinal patients. The successful applicant will work closely with the Senior Ward Sister to promote a positive inclusive culture in line with the Trust Values which will aid both retention of staff and furthermore the development of the team. The ward has high acuity patients and also receives level 1 step-downs from Critical Care and the Surgical Special Care Unit. Due to the nature and the acuity of the patients cared for on ward 109, it is imperative that the successful applicant is experienced and is able to deliver care to acutely ill surgical patients. The role of Deputy is a dual role that requires both clinical leadership and also managerial responsibilities - for example ( off duty) ( Datix completion).

In summary the Deputy sister/Charge nurse has delegated responsibility for the management of the clinical areas including the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards on a shift basis and in the authorised absence of the Senior Sister

Main duties of the job

The key responsibilities of the role include are:-

Acting as a professional role model and being an advocate for both patients, families and the team

To deliver safe effective patient care for patients both pre and post and in the acute phases of illness with effective communication and documentation

To support senior sister in all aspects of managerial tasks required to deliver a seamless service for the patients and the team

To be proactive in the development of the workforce in line with educations programmes within the trust

To lead in a positive leadership manner which promotes autonomy and growth within the whole team

Effective time management is essential/able to work towards deadlines
