Job overview

The Community Neurodevelopmental Paediatric (CNP) service is looking to welcome 2 (1.6 WTE) CNP practitioners. 

The CNP service comprises of two community based assessment centers, Ashton Health Centre and Brodaoks Child Development Centre. These newly created roles will work across both sites primarily supporting patients undergoing an ADHD assessment through the delivery of QB testing. Furthermore, the role will also support wider neurodevelopmental work through nursery/school observations, report scoring and the delivery of service specific workshops.

You will also support the clinic facilitators at each site ensuring the smooth running of daily duties across both sites.

Main duties of the job

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will primarily be responsible for setting up and conducting QB tests for the Community Neurodevelopmental Paediatric (CNP) ADHD pathway to support paediatricians in concluding a diagnostic decision. Additionally, you will form a key part of the multidisciplinary team and be involved in monthly MDT meetings contributing to a patient’s assessment.

You may at times be required to confidently assess a child’s development by observing and interacting with children in a variety of environments who have been referred to Community Paediatrics for an assessment of their development. The observations obtained by observing children in a social setting will be evaluated and evidenced in a report completed by the Children’s Community Neurodevelopment Practitioner; to aid further medical review, such as for a social communication assessment or for complex cases.

️ Additionally, you will be responsible for managing the daily administrative duties for the ADHD pathway, including but not limited to updating and maintaining the ADHD assessment spreadsheet, transferring/filling in developmental history, creating and distributing monthly MDT agendas and following up on actions, booking patient appointments, sending out questionnaires, liaising with families and schools, and scoring questionnaires/reports.

️ You will demonstrate professional, well-established, and effective communication skills, both within and external to the organisation.

Experience and awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, and Neurodiversity, alongside a robust understanding of child development, is essential to this role.

You will work as a member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team by contributing to and assessing a child’s development to support identification of need for children with developmental delays, with future scope to initiate and run group workshops to support patients under the CNP service.

You are expected to travel across sites as requirement by the service.

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria

Diploma for Early Years Practitioner or equivalent Child development qualification or relevant models in Child Development

Desirable criteria

Coaching/counselling qualification. Experience involving reflective listening skills relevant training and experience in non-clinical Supported Self-Management (SSM) Health Coaching through a PCI-accredited organisation.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

Significant experience of working with children and their families. An awareness of the impact of communication difficulties on child development.

Desirable criteria

Experience of working in health and social care care/community development setting or similar. Awareness of alternative communication systems e.g. communication aids, signs and symbols. Experience of working with neurodiverse children and young people, including those diagnosed with Autism

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria

Skilled in building trust and rapport quickly with Children. Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks as required. Excellent observation skills and ability to interpret findings to aid decision making. Ability to work with minimal supervision and act decisively and ask for help when needed. Good time management skills, plan and organise own case load. Proficient in Microsoft Office and web-based services. Ability to travel across multiple sites. Ability to prioritise.
