Phlebotomist

Job summary

Padiham Group Practice is currently looking for a Phlebotomist to work part time (16-20 hours) over two to three days.

You will be part of a supportive team and friendly team.

Main duties of the job

Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming theiragreement to the collection of a blood sample.

Collection of sample(s)of blood in accordance with training and procedures.

Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers.

Accurate, legible labellingof all samples to confirmpatient identity

Checking patient identification against GP/nurserequest and confirming with patient whenever possible

Recording collection of blood samplein patient recordin accordance with practiceprocedure

Ensuring that samplesare dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion

Padiham Group Practice is a large, busy practice in the centre of Padiham, we serve over 13,000 patients. the practice is made up of GPs, ANPs, Practice Nurses, HCAs and a complement of administration staff.

Job Summary

The post holder must work as part of a team,have the ability to organise and prioritise their own workload on a day-to-daybasis, and observe strict rules about confidentiality at all times. They must also know the limits of their owncapabilities and seek direction from a Practice nurse, GP, or Practice Manager.

Working under the supervision of practicenursing team and strictly in accordance withspecific practice or national guidelines and protocols, the Phlebotomist will be responsible for performing venepuncture toobtain blood samples from patients only as the result of a direct referral from a GP ornurse practitioner.
