Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our MNERS Team for a temporary fixed term ( Mon-Thurs) qualified English Teacher to join us.

Our dedicated Medical Needs Education & Reintegration Service (MNERS) specialises in supporting school age students who are unable to attend their school for health related reasons.

Main duties of the job

As part of this role, you will teach KS3 and KS4 English in small groups using online platforms or via individual support. All MNERS lessons are currently delivered using MS Teams, requiring you to work remotely, alongside attendance at Wiltshire Council hub bases for team meetings and training. The work may also include support for students accessing other on-line teaching packages and who need bespoke assistance via outreach support and will entail travel within Wiltshire. You will plan and deliver effective lessons and use a range of assessment strategies to monitor progress for students. You will work closely with schools and, where appropriate, support students' re-integration back into mainstream schooling alongside attending multi-agency meetings with key partner agencies such as schools, health and CAMHS.

We are seeking an experienced qualified Teacher with a proven track record of supporting learners to achieve. You will have experience of using a virtual classroom and of supporting vulnerable young people and those with complex needs. A strong understanding of the principles of safeguarding children and young people, the use of escalation processes and multi-agency working is essential. With excellent interpersonal skills, you will have the ability to engage and motivate children and young people with a creative and flexible approach.

Job responsibilities

As a Teacher within the MNERS Team, you will provide high quality teaching and support to pupils referred to the service by schools, in order to achieve and support positive pupil outcomes and educational achievement. Teachers will cover a defined curriculum area (English or Maths), with possible additional subjects. Some Primary phase support may also be required. MNERS teaching is mainly provided via a virtual classroom with some additional face-to-face teaching opportunities, as required, which will entail travel within Wiltshire. Teaching/education support at Salisbury District Hospital is delivered on an individual basis to in-patient children and young people.The postholder will meet the Teachers Standards to:

Fulfil wider professional responsibilitiesSpecific duties and responsibilities include:

To receive MNERS referrals for children and young people with health-related needs and set up educational programmes to be active within 10 days.

To consult with the childs or young persons school upon referral, and regularly thereafter, in order to rigorously monitor and review the educational provision.

To plan, deliver and assess educational programmes to groups or individuals in any of the MNERS bases or virtual classroom and/or those accessing provision from alternative providers.

To undertake teaching duties via the virtual classroom and/or in person (including at Salisbury District Hospital) and direct and support teaching assistants/support workers in order that a balanced curriculum is offered.

To regularly liaise with Council and other colleagues to ensure consistency of educational programmes, equality of opportunity and the well-being and safeguarding of children and young people.

To plan teaching to achieve progression in the pupils learning through identifying clear teaching objectives and targets, which build on prior attainment; and specify how these will be taught and assessed.

To provide clear structure and planning for virtual classroom or in person lessons in the short, medium and longer term which maintain pace, motivation and challenge for pupils and setting suitable high expectations with challenge and content matched to individual needs.

To make effective use of all assessment information on students attainment,progress and achievement in learning.

To demonstrate good or outstanding lessons based on the current OFSTED observation framework .

To regularly maintain appropriate records for educational programmes, pupil progress, achievement and attainment, including accurate case notes and data using specified case management recording systems.

To use technology (including the virtual classroom) as a means of supporting and enhancing learning.

To prepare all necessary reports and documents concerning the monitoring and evaluation of pupils progress and achievement.

To report to parents and carers on pupils progress (both learning and emotional) and their academic attainment.

To carry out duties as required for the management and care of individuals and groups of students. Set high standards and expectations for behaviour, establishing and maintaining discipline through well focused teaching and the promotion of positive, productive relationships.

To plan and deliver opportunities which contribute to pupils personal, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

To undertake continuing professional development (CPD) in order to keep informed regarding developments in education, behaviour and special educational needs and other specialist areas to maintain/develop knowledge and skills.

To attend and represent the MNERS team at meetings and training events and support the initiatives as directed by the MNERS Manager and Head of Targeted Education Service, including where appropriate, with external stakeholders.

To make decisions and recommendations in consultation with and on behalf of the MNERS Manager.

To be proactive in promoting inclusion by maintaining pupils in appropriate provision.

Build effective relationships with parents, carers and families and other relevant external partner agencies schools, health and external providers.

To work closely with schools and external providers to monitor programmes, track progress, deal with issues as they arise, maintain safeguarding processes and tackle any courses of concern.

To participate in the performance management system for the appraisal of personal performance.

To report any proposed expenditure to support the curriculum to the MNERS Manager.

To be aware of and comply with all Council policies and procedures relating to information security, confidentiality and data protection.

Experience

Essential

Qualified Teacher, with post-qualification teaching experience. Excellent curriculum knowledge. Knowledge of individual learning styles. Up-to-date knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation and guidance in relation to working with and the safeguarding of children/vulnerable adults. Working knowledge of legislation related to: - education of pupils with health needs - SEN and social/educational inclusion - equalities Ability to teach specified core-subject/s to GCSE level. Proven ability to regularly deliver good or outstanding lessons. Experience of teaching remotely and using a virtual classroom effectively. Experience of teaching pupils with health-related needs or additional complex needs including mental health. Experience of working with children and young people who are vulnerable. Ability to plan and implement individual education programmes and understands the importance of personalised learning as a vehicle for positive pupil outcomes and individual progression. Able to identify pupils strengths and weakness and any barriers to learning, and develop appropriate support strategies. Able to demonstrate robust target setting systems that are embedded in your teaching and learning strategies. Able to successfully embed and monitor progression within a lesson. An understanding of the principals of reinforcing literacy and numeracy across the curriculum. Able to positively manage the use of supporting adults/teaching assistants within learning situations, and working as part of a team. Able to establish credibility and develop positive relationships with external stakeholders, including schools, parents/carers and other professionals. Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and work flexibly when required and manage own workload. High level of communication skills, including verbal, non-verbal, written and negotiation. High level of Literacy, Numeracy and IT Skills.

Desirable

Experience of using a specialist virtual learning platform for delivery of remote teaching. Able to teach successfully across the curriculum/additional subject/s. Experience of Primary phase teaching. Qualification linked to working with children and young people who have specific needs. Experience of working within an integrated service delivery model /multi-agency context. Experience of supervising staff.
