Solent are offering a great opportunity for either a qualified Clinical Psychologist or for a Newly Qualified Psychologist to join us on a Preceptorship for a 12 month fixed term post to cover maternity leave.

In the role, you will provide input to a specialist 2b Neurological Rehabilitation Service based at The Western Community Hospital in Southampton. Snowdon is a 14 bedded unit providing multi-disciplinary assessment and rehabilitation to patients with acquired neurological problems.

The Neuropsychology service exists to meet the specialist needs of adults who have acquired neuropsychological and psychological disabilities following an acquired brain injury such as traumatic brain injury, stroke, anoxia, infection or other acquired neurological condition. This service consists of 9 Neuropsychologists/Clinical Psychologists in Neuropsychology and focuses on Clinical Neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation for adults with cognitive, emotional and behavioural sequelae, living in the community with their partners, family and carers The team provide acute and post-acute rehabilitation (based at the Western and at other Solent NHS Trust sites) and input after discharge home through out-patient contact or home visits.

Main duties of the job

We are a large Neuropsychology Department which consists of 9 Clinical Neuropsychologists/Psychologists in Neuropsychology working across the rehabilitation pathway. We offer regular accredited supervision and there are excellent professional development opportunities. We can provide supervision for candidates wanting to undertake the Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology (QICN).

The post-holder is a key member of the MDT and will provide neuropsychological assessment, formulation and rehabilitation as well as supporting other members of the team to develop a psychological understanding of patients' difficulties. The post-holder will work primarily with in-patients but on occasion may visit some patients or relatives in their own home and carry out some out-patient work. They will also provide input for family members.

About us

We have been working with other local NHS Trusts to create a new organisation, bringing together all community, mental health and learning disability services from across Hampshire and Isle of Wight. Subject to approvals, the aim is for the new Trust to be formed by July 2024.Project Fusion is the name for the programme to create the new combined NHS Foundation Trust. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust will be bringing the services into a single organisation will result in more consistent care, more equitable access to services irrespective of postcode, and a more sustainable workforce and services. The new organisation will operate locally to ensure services can best meet the needs of different new Trust will be comprised of all the services currently provided by Solent NHS Trust and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, the community, mental health and learning disability services provided by Isle of Wight NHS Trust and child and adolescent mental health services delivered in parts of Hampshire by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.Colleagues will transfer to the new organisation under Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) -- known as TUPE on 1st July 2024. TUPE is a legal process to ensure you transfer out of one organisation and into another, maintaining the terms and conditions of your employment.

Qualifications

Essential

Bachelor's Degree in psychology. Doctoral level qualification in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsych) or equivalent postgraduate training recognised by BPS and HCPC (for those qualified outside the UK or before 1996) Postgraduate qualification conferring eligibility for chartership by the British Psychological Society including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a practitioner Psychologist

Experience

Essential

Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across a range of care settings, such as outpatient, community, primary care and in-patient settings Experience of working with neurological problems Experience of working with a variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse Newly qualified candidates who do not yet meet all the essential criteria could be appointed at Band 7
