Post Details – An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our finance team as a Modern Apprentice Assistant Management Accountant. This modern apprenticeship is a 2 year programme. If successful in your application, you will be employed initially on a fixed term 2 year Annex 21 trainee contract.

During the 2 year apprenticeship you will work towards achieving:

• AAT Certificate in Accounting at SCQF Level 6.

• International Certification of Digital Literacy (ICDL) Qualification.

• Certificate in Excel and Word Advanced Courses.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is looking to start their accounting career as an apprentice within a changeable complex setting. The successful candidate will have an interest in working with numbers and spreadsheets and a willingness to learn new skills.

Experience – The current vacancy for the Modern Apprentice is open to anyone aged between 16 and 24 years (or 16 to 29 years for candidates with a disability or who are care experienced*) in line with NHS State Hospital Recruitment Strategy and in support of our workforce demographics and projections.

*The term “care experienced” refers to anyone who has been, or is currently in care. This includes kinship care where you are living/lived with a relative who is not your parent, or looked after with the help of social work, or living/lived in Residential care, Foster care, Secure care or Adoption.

In order to apply you must have achieved either an SCQF Level 5 in accounting, or Higher Accountancy at A-C, or two Highers in other academic subjects A-C or equivalent SCQF level awards/qualifications OR have previous relevant work experience in a finance setting.

Further Information

Reduced Working Week - *Starting from 1 April 2024, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will be reduced from 37.5 to 37 hours, and part-time staff will get a pro-rata reduction in their working hours without losing any earnings. Although the State Hospital will implement this change, it may not be possible to transition fully from 1 April. Therefore, there may be some areas in the organisation where implementation may take longer. If the department cannot safely accommodate the reduced hours from 1st April, you may be required to work 37.5 hours per week (pro rata for part-time staff) until the department can meet the requirements without impacting patient safety. Of course, you will be remunerated accordingly. The State Hospital is committed to fully implementing the 37-hour working week across all areas as soon as it is safe to do so.
