Job summary

Norfolk & Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) are looking for a Gardener/Groundsman to join our existing multi-disciplinary professional maintenance team in providing a safe environment for all service users, staff and visitors across our Suffolk sites being based at The Hollies, 155 Ribbans Park Rd, Ipswich.

The Gardener/Groundsman will provide a comprehensive programme of garden maintenance and groundworks for various sites across the service on instruction from the Maintenance Services Works Officer. They will be expected to carry out planned and routine ground works using a variety of plant and equipment.

The work relates to both domestic and specialist commercial aspects of grounds & gardens maintenance.

Main duties of the job

The Gardening Services provides a high quality service to the grounds and gardens of the Trusts' portfolio of properties to provide a safe and pleasant external environment.

The Gardeners/Grounds person provide maintenance to the grounds and gardens as well as the upkeep of the mowed lawns, general grassed areas and low maintenance borders, ornamental flowering borders, trees. Undertaking general horticultural duties such as seasonal planting.

The work relates to various types of seasonal work including road sweeping and litter/debris collection as well as snow clearing and gritting of the footpaths and roads.

Job responsibilities

You will be required to undertake a planned and routine programme of garden maintenance and groundworks on a variety of plant & equipment following appropriate training. Undertake essential repair works and daily management defect work as instructed by the Works Officers and with a level of competence following appropriate training. Assist Craft persons with carrying out minor new installation and alteration works/recharge works. Assist with gritting of footpaths and roads during adverse weather conditions including participation in local arrangements for snow clearing and gritting outside normal hours. Undertake Service Level Agreement work for other NHS organisations and private customers in a professional manner, comply with their requirements and accurately complete all paperwork including time, materials etc. Person Specification

National Proficiency Test - LANTRA Compact Tractor National Proficiency Test -LANTRA Opertors Training - Ride-On Mowers and Pedestrian Cylinder Mowers Full driving licence for ability to drive Trust vehicles

Desirable

City & Guilds Phase 1 & 2 Amenity Horticulture LANTRA Brushcutters/ Trimmers - Maintenance & Operation

Experience

Essential

Two years relevant grounds & gardening experience

Desirable

Experience of working in a psychiatric and forensic hospital environment

Knowledge

Essential

Knowledge and experience of the standard and specialist aspects of horticultural services Understanding of Health & Safety regulations within the Workplace
