Job summary

The post will be based at St George's Universities NHS Trust but will also provide a spoke vascular service to Epsom Hospitaland Queen Mary's Hospital (Roehampton) alongside the existing spoke consultants. There will be a requirement to undertake clinical work on call out of hours. The new incumbent will be expected to participate in the existing vascular programmes. The on-call rota is well established and is run on a 1:11 basis to cover the needs for vascular emergencies. Senior colleague support will be available during on-calls to offer assistance until no longer required. Similarly, a senior colleague, either within the vascular unit or otherwise, will be designated as a mentor if desired.

Main duties of the job

Opportunities will exist for the successful candidate to contribute to audit, and clinical research, with review and revision of the job plan as required to facilitate this, in l m ine with Trust policies.

As St George's is a teaching hospital, the Consultant would be expected to deliver teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate students whilst undertaking DCC duties. Opportunities are available to become involved in formal education and educational supervision, if desired, with review of the job plan if appropriate.

Office accommodation, computer and secretarial support is given to the successful applicant, with secretarial support being provided at both Epsom Hospitaland Queen Mary's Hospital (Roehampton).

The successful candidate would be expected to offer competencies to widen the unit's existing expertise, whilst the trust will grant time, and encourage participation in activities relating to continuing professional development (CPD).

Support and education regarding appraisal and revalidation will be given to the successful candidate.

About us

St George's Healthcare NHS Trust has around 1300 beds and treats around 80,000 inpatient and day cases and over 300,000 outpatients annually. The Trust employs over 5000 staff including about 700 Medical & Dental Staff. It provides general acute services together with speciality services including neurosciences, cardiothoracic, haemato-oncology and specialist children's services.

St George's Hospital is the only university hospital in the south-west London, and as such has developed links with most district general hospitals throughout SW London, Surrey and Sussex, and supports a significant training programme for junior doctors who rotate through the Trust.

There is a postgraduate education and training centre on site. The campus is shared with St George's University of London (Medical School), and all staff have access to the extensive university library facilities. Infection research is a key theme for both Trust and University and there is a large amount of on- going translational research with a many opportunities for research and to build research programs in research.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

Full registration with General Medical Council or eligible if currently working overseas Currently on the Specialist Register or eligibility for inclusion within 6 months of the Higher professional qualification (eg. FRCS or equivalent) Published research papers/presentations. NIHR or other major funding body research grants within 5-years of interview

Completion of a relevant management course / programme Teaching qualification MD or PhD
