Job summary

Working under the direction of the lead nurse and as part ofthe practice multidisciplinary team, the post holder will be responsible forperforming venepuncture, as requested by the clinical team, to the entitledpatient population. In addition, thePhlebotomist will be expected to support the nursing team on an as required basis.

Main duties of the job

The following arethe core responsibilities of the Phlebotomist. There may be, on occasion, arequirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors suchas workload and staffing levels:

a. Obtainingpatient consent for the collection of a blood sample

b. Performingvenepuncture in accordance with practice protocols

c. Maintainingaccurate patient records on SystemOne

d. Thecorrect labelling, packaging and storing of samples

e. Effectiveuse of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies

f. Ensuringsamples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner

g. Maintainingan effective liaison with the laboratory staff at Frimley Park Hospital.

h. Workingcollaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary forpatient related matters
