It Is an exciting time to join theChildrens nursing team at WAHT. A new dedicated Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU) is being planned and will be operational 24/7.

We are looking for experienced,motivated and highly skilled nursing staff who are able to demonstrateeffective leadership skills and be a positive role model. Previous experience working in an acuteAssessment Unit or Childrens ED will be an advantage. PAU will work in close collaboration with theChildrens Emergency Department and Riverbank Childrens Ward.
In the absence of the Band 7 department Manager, the Band 6 JuniorSister will lead and co-ordinate a dedicated team of nursing and support staffin the delivery of a high standard of nursing care.
You will be responsible and accountable for maintaining thesafety of the ward, be highly visible and accessible to children and youngpeople, their carers and all staff within the MDT.

Main duties of the job

Todiscuss with the senior colleagues the development and changes, both nursingand medical, which affect patients directly and indirectly.
Totake appropriate action to ensure the safety of patients, including thedelegation of patient care to nurses with the appropriate level of skill at alltimes. To report any accidents/incidents to the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse and/orMatron.
Youmay be asked to assist other departments where 0-17 year olds presents on an adhoc basis and with support.

Job Purpose:
Toensure the maintenance of a high standard of nursing care at all times throughthe effective management of staff and resources and to be available for adviceand support within the specialty.
Provideeffective leadership and to act as a good role model, as well as to liaise withall members of the multi-disciplinary team and co-ordinate all aspects of carein the best interests of the patient and family.
Tosupervise junior staff and to teach qualified and unqualified staff asappropriate.
Toliaise closely with person carrying overall responsibility for theward/department in the absence of that person.
Rotatebetween Riverbank Childrens Ward and Paediatric Assessment Unit
Dimensions:
Shift responsibility on rotation basis for:
Riverbank Unit: On going management of approximately 73members of staff on a ward consisting of 30 beds/cubicles, 4 Assessment bedsand 1 high dependency cubicle.
Paediatric Assessment Unit: On going management ofapproximately 30 members of staff on a unit consisting of 14 beds / trolleyspaces.
Risk Assessment:
The post involves manual handling activities and exposure tobody fluids and chemicals. May involve some VDU work and individuals may beexposed to violence and aggression.
