Job description

The role of Lifeguard is a great position to be able to carry out and be involved in the full range of leisure activities. It is a customer facing role providing rewarding opportunities. Variation in activities and learning provides an exciting working day, every day, for our Lifeguards.

Primary Objectives for the Lifeguard will be:

  • To ensure the safety of and enjoyment of everybody using the Health and Fitness Club.
  • To partake in the management of all aspects of the daily activities of the Club.

The Lifeguard will focus day to day on the following tasks:

  • To guide, care for and assist all Health and Fitness Club customers.
  • To facilitate a friendly but efficient working relationship with the people who use the Health and Fitness Club.
  • To work as part of a team to achieve the objectives and usage targets of the Health and Fitness Club.
  • To innovate ideas and initiate action to increase the usage of the Health and Fitness Club.
  • To ensure all facilities are presented to the highest levels of cleanliness and comfort.
  • Assist the Club Manager in the effective control and security of the facility, patrolling all appropriate areas ensuring that equipment is stored safely and securely.
  • To be aware of all Health and Safety issues within the Club, to constantly implement and assess procedures drawing attention to any unsafe practices.
  • To ensure all parts of the Club are safe and secure when not in use.
  • To cover duties of such other members of staff as required.
  • To undertake any other duties as may be required to assist in the running of the Health and Fitness Club.
  • Portray a positive image of the Health and Fitness Club, wearing the uniform provided whilst on duty.

THE CANDIDATE

Qualifications

The post holder should have a good general education and a desire to achieve a leisure management qualification. Ideally the postholder will possess a current first aid qualification and have the RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification.

  • Communicate throughout the organisation.
  • Meet the demands of the role by working additional hours when required.
  • Demonstrate clear identification with all customer requirements.
  • Be a team player
  • Develop the role on your own initiative

DBS

Some Lifeguard positions may be classed as a regulated post and therefore may require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Where the individual does not already hold a DBS Disclosure, it will be necessary for the postholder to be submitted for a DBS check.
