This post is intended to support cross site working in the subspecialty of head and neck imaging and it is anticipated that some direct clinical care sessions will take place at the Churchill Hospital.

Main duties of the job

This post is partially required to meet ever increasing demand for diagnostic neuroradiology services, but also to further the unique strength in subspecialisation within the consultant team as regards head and neck/ENT imaging. The Neuroradiology Department in Oxford is one of few where head and neck imaging has historically been a component of neuroradiology workload, and this remains the current position

Job description

Job responsibilities

The successful applicant will thus undertake all aspects of general adult diagnostic neuroradiology and head and neck imaging, including neck diagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound guided neck biopsies and will need to demonstrate professional excellence and the ability to deliver effective care. This is an excellent opportunity to join a close-knit effective team, and in addition to supporting the diagnostic radiology services, there should be the opportunity to develop further areas of special interest and to take an active interest in research and development and teaching.

Person Specification

Qualifications/Training

Essential

Medical Degree FRCR or equivalent Full registration with GMC CCT in Radiology; or Registration on GMC Specialist Register in Radiology OR within six months of achieving CCT at the time of interview. Completed general training in radiology and in neuroradiology to specialist level or equivalent. Completed at least 36 months training (or be within 6 months of the end of this training) in recognized neuroradiology training post, with evidence of subspecialty training in interventional neuroradiology of at least one year.

Higher Academic qualification MD, MS Further specialist fellowship in neuroradiology

Able to offer an expert neuroradiology opinion Able to participate in both diagnostic and interventional on call Able to perform most interventional procedures independently Evidence of ability to make decisions at consultant level and to manage complex clinical problems.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

Effective administrative and time management skills. Knowledge of contemporary NHS management issues. Knowledge of political context within which we operate. Ability to work independently as well as part of the Core Clinical Services Directorate. Recognise that it is necessary to balance individual requirements against those of the Directorate and Trust as a whole. Evidence of significant contribution to successful teamwork Flexible approach to service delivery and committed approach to development Good spoken and written English. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills. Evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels. Experience of formal and informal contributions to teaching and training. Ability to inspire, motivate and develop junior medical staff. Willingness to undertake teaching of medical under-graduates & postgraduates. Willingness to undertake teaching of medical under-graduates & postgraduates. Evidence of recent CME/ reasonable training progression at this stage of career. Experience in audit project and written up Knowledge of main aspects of clinical governance including serious incidents Evidence of research activity suitable at this stage of career/training.

Willingness to be involved in clinical management Evidence of specialist/select neurointerventional training and experience Knowledge of and experience in using Radiology Management Systems, PACS, and voice recognition dictation.
